1977 280Z. I know that getting 4 piston calipers should take care of this. I've heard that a Toyota Pick-up's calipers may be a direct bolt on some Zs.
Does anybody know of this and what Toyota PU and year. I know that you can get calipers but trying to save money.

 

1979-84 Toyota 4x4 truck front calipers. They have solid rotors those years and the calipers bolt right onto your Z (1970-78) and use the stock rotors.
Also, the 1984 FourRunner has solid rotors but changed to vented midway through the year.
1985+ Toyota 4x4 calipers work also, but you must upgrade to vented rotors to use them.

 

Thanks for the info. I was looking at kits with rotors, calipers and all for 800.00 a set. Definatly out of price range for now.

 

BTW, brake squealing is mainly dependant on the type of brake pads used. I don't know all the details but you can buy brake pads for your Z calipers that should be fairly quiet. If you want better stopping power, just buy the older Toyota calipers and put them on your factory rotors. Good upgrade for about $150 total. Rebuilt calipers are $50 each and then you need some new brake hoses.

 

Also on a 79 280ZX are there piston calipers available to fit for the front?

I think so, but the 280zx brakes a far different than the 240Z/280Z brakes. There are no known bolt-on calipers from another vehicle for the ZX. You'd have to order them from a performance shop or Z-car store for the 280zx and pay a premium price for them. Probably $600+

 

Tell you what, I had the same exact problem. If you don't have the anti-squeal shims on your front pads, go to courtesyparts.com and give em a call. I paid $11 for all 4 of them (2 for each caliper) and I haven't heard a squeak, squeal, or noise since. Best of all, they were nice and shiny.

BTW: I bought brand new (not remanufactured, new) calipers at O'Reillys for $36 each.

 

I don't think we have an O'Reillys up here in WA State. Last pair of stock Z calipers I purchased (exchanged) with NAPA was around 80-90 for the pair, and included the pads as well.
