3rd gear hesitation
3rd gear hesitation
In my '83 n/a, when I'm romping on it, sometimes there's a wierd hesitation before the motor starts rolling. Even then, it's not "quite right".
I get the same hesitation just rolling along on the highway around 78mph (3100ish rpm).
Any ideas or thoughts what this might be???

Check out your ignition. Make sure the rotor has good motion. Take off the cap and twist the rotor with your hand. Let it snap back into place. This will assure your mechanical advance is working properly.
check the position of the adjusting nut at the base of the distributor. It should be in the middle with a little bit of gap on either side. The little 10mm bolt rests in a slot. Losen that bolt, thurn the distributor counterclockwise a little untill the gap is just barely gone. (the lower end, towards the driver's side) This will advance your ignition a litte. If your mechanical or vaccume advance is messed up, advance the distributor all the way with the adjustment I just described.
Now drive your car and see if that helped. If it did then something was wrong with your ignition. Maybe even just replace your spark plug wires and spark plugs.
