question about motors
Hey guys,
I don't actually own a Z, but my girlfriend owns a '93 NA and just bought a pearl white 350z, so you have to give me some credit.
Anyway, I was just wondering if someone could answer some questions between the NA Z and the TT Z motors.
1. Are there any differences in the blocks? i.e. is the TT block stronger or made differently.
2. Is there any differences in heads, cams, between the two?
3. Are there manufacturers that make good pistons and rods, ugraded cams for these motors still?
The reason why I am asking is because I am purchasing a '73 Datsun 210, and plan to build a tube chassis in it. I have a '91 NA motor and I was wondering if the block and heads could be used with some up graded internals and a stand alone fuel management system when I twin turbo it. (Not just a backyard project.) Any info would be great guys. Just didn't know if the stock NA BLOCK can handle boost or not. And if you could list some manufacturers that make racing internals or the like. Thanks again.

There are a few differences
Really, all in all, I would buy a JDM engine for $1000 or so, that was all ready made for the TT Z. I cannot remember all differences between the engines, but I know for one, the na engine I believe did not have the oil squirters, and injector size is smaller. Then the compression ratio in the na is 11.5 to 1, whereas the tt model is 8.5 to 1. That would lead me to believe the pistons are different. Once twinturbo.net is up again, I will get you the *for sure* list of differences.

Thanks for your help. I knew the compression ratio was a lot higher than the tt motor, but I just didn't know if the block was made the same or not, strength wise. I made a mistake though. I have a '90 NA motor out of a Infinit M30 which is the vg3e motor, which I am in the wrong forum anyway.
But I really appreciate your help.

The blocks are the same but virtually everything else except maybe the crank itself is different. Different pistons, rods, valve train, cams, upper intake plenum and so on. It'd be easier to just buy a tt engine to place in your project car.
Yeah you can still find racing internals for the VG30DETT.
www.splparts.com
www.sgpracing.com
http://www.boost-solutions.com/
These site should have all the parts and then some that you'll even think of needing. You could totally rebuild the engine with all the parts you'll find at these sites.
Good luck on your project.

Rizz..you got some brains. Also, if you were to buy the jdm, i strongly suggest considering rebuilding it before putting it in. from what i've seen, jdm vg30dett's tend to have a hit or miss kind of reliability if not rebuilt first.
You will also need to changed the radiator and... apron? (The black piece of plastic that covers the fan?)The intercooler piping will run right into the stock N/A (Naturally Aspirated) set-up. So there is lots more that must be changed... My advice, E-Mail me so I can hook you up with the proper supplier of the VG30DETT front clip, so you will have everything you need. You will get what you need... And i'll make some comition, haha
