280ZX will not start

This 1980 280ZX started and ran fine until last week. Placed the inigition switch to on and no sound from the fuel pump?? Went to crank anyway and NO starter crank. Tried several times but nothing, then there was smoke from the EFI relay. It was burned. Replaced it and now the engine cranks but does not start. Fuel pump does not run with the inigition switch on but does run after the engine is cranked for awhile?? Does it sound like the control unit needs to be replaced or is there something else I need to look for??

Its hard to say, but obviously an electrical problem. I would first double-check to see that the FI computer is fastened down good and that there is no rust on the mounting surface. Then check your battery's cables and possibly replace them. Just for fun, get some smaller ground wires and ground the engine block in another place to the frame or body.
Then do the usual check for spark and fuel in the engine.

I have to agree with Bleach on this one. The only other thing I'd check is the fuel pump itself. Look at the connections, make sure they are still making a good contact.
Also, if you have the time, you may want to drop the fuel tank and check the strainer to make sure it's not clogged with any rust or foreign matter.
