digital compass

I'd like any info possible on how to repair the digital compass in my '84ZXTAE. #1 -- because it's frustrating to look at it (stuck arrow). #2 -- because it's comes in handy when you're out driving mindlessly and enjoying the car and you need to get home!!!! (heh, heh...)

Re: digital compass

you may need to have it demagnetized or need a new sensor. if you ever take your car someplace where they stick one of those magnet cone things on the roof, you may want to tell them that they'll have to pay up to replace the sensor... don't let them stick any magnets on your roof cause it'll mess up the sensor. (and don't inadvertently set a speaker on the roof).

could also be needing a recalibration. I think procedure is in the factory service manual.

Re: digital compass

if this is ANY help.....it only shows either one of these: SW or SE (The "needle" points there...) Sometimes, all of the arrows are on, but when that happens, it does the same thing on the boost gauge.

Damn, when do you have time to work on your carz? You seem to be answering everyone's questions!!!

Re: digital compass

Ive seen a few where all the arrows light up (and stay that way). I think only solution for that is to replace it. Pretty sure that wasn't the calibration tho, cause that was in my "test car" and other ones worked fine.

@Spike114

This symptom is a failed compass unit. You would need to either disassemble the current unit and repair any failed solder joints and Capacitors in the unit. The other option is to replace with a known working unit. I will be Building a Test rig one of these days to be able to Repair these units as well as the Digital clusters.
