clutch questions

i did a search first but could not find a answer. so please inform me. my 1983 280ZX non turbo needs a new clutch. i need to know if the turbo 280ZX or the 300ZX or Maxima or truck or WHAT all clutch kit will fit my Z. i don't want to buy the wrong parts. i have all ready pulled the trans, and the friction plate is all most to the rivets. the flywheel looks new. just waiting to find out what clutch kit to buy. do i want the auto zone kit? the cheep ebay kit? or the 6 puck kit? my Z is mostly stock.
HELP i need my ZZZZZZ

Non-turbo flywheel is 220mm.
Turbo flywheel is 240mm.

Either get the clutch meant for your non-turbo, or find a turbo flywheel & upgrade to the larger turbo clutch... remember, bigger = more mass ... more mass = heavier ... heavier = slower to rev.

seriously? you buy a non turbo 280zx clutch and pressure plate combo.... whats so hard about that? why would a truck or maxima one work? and the turbo as nismo said has a larger flywheel so you cant use it unless you get a turbo flywheel. why was this so confusing to you? if your able to get a tranny anf clutch assembly pulled off a car i would kinda hope you could decide what clutch assembly you would need. i can understand the turbo/non turbo question, but thats usually explained when you find the clutch pakages. but the truck/maxima question..... come on....

no offense btw. but thats just a little weak

Ah yeah... forgot to mention that the 2+2's are 240mm flywheels too.

Turbo models have the Borg Warner T5 tranny... non turbo's don't.

Again... 240mm & 220mm... if other Datsun flywheels are the same size, them may fit. Like Snw said.... just freaking buy a clutch for your flywheel and save yourself a headache.

you do realize he called you nismoprick right? not nismopick....

and years ago that shop is probably full of ****. oh, and i said no offense, that gets me off the hook on everything but also, the maxima had a similare motor but it was a 6 cylinder diesel so i doubt it shared that similare of a clutch. i cant think of an l6 truck but w/e. the 2+2 and turbo are the same for ZX's the NA 2 seaters are their own thing and also the same as the S30 i think.....

not all the maximas were diesel, some were gasoline, the only thing i am not sure of is if all of them were 2.4L or just the gasoline one.
engines are swappable and from what i have seen it uses a transmission thats is able to go from one car to another.

its the same block just the smaller bore and shorter stroke, like in 240z's

and at the same time though, you gotta think, the Z is a sports car, they are probably going to have different pressure rates at the pressure plate and possibly a different clutch material make up. sports cars make more power/take mor abuse so they will more than likely be made better. but still. this is just a silly question in the end. you know what your Z is (2+2, turbo, NA we) so you go to the site that you want to purchase your clutch assembly from and make sure the description matches what you want. thats like saying, i want to make orange juice, but can i use tangerines?!?!?!

well it may hev been a clutch that grabs better that fit either or, mabe the shop thought it cheaper to have one clutch for a varying degree of car its compatable with.

who knows people do werid things

Well in my '82 280zx n/a 2 seater (T-top). I put in a Centerforce pressure plate, with AutoZone Duralast brand clutch, with the throwout bearing. In my '82 280zx n/a 2 seater slicktop. I put in a a performance clutch, I got from Ebay. It is called a Boss racing style clutch. And it works great. If I find another one on Ebay, I will post a link for you.

All in all, both of my Z's have little to no slip at all in the clutches. With what they have. So there is some ideas for you. If you are looking for more than stock in a clutch. But alot really is how the driver feels, and if they are comfortable with what they chose to put on their Z.

Once the weather warms up in the spring, I'm going to have the flywheel off my 2+2 part car lightened, and get a new stock clutch for it to use on my 2 seater. With it being the same as the Turbo, it has an extra 100lbs or so clamping force built in to the pressure plate. I figure since my n/a engine is going to remain fairly stock, I shouldn't need a more expensive clutch than was designed for the Turbo application.
