Engine Swap?

Engine Swap?
Hi people, long time lurker, first time poster here! I just wanted to post a question that I hope you guys can answer for me.
The engine on my 87 300ZX is normal stock, lately it's 150K+ age has been giving me heat issues as well as a few anomalous sounds. I'm concerned that she's on her last leg. The easiest way to keep my Z running would be an engine swap.
My question is this: Aside from replacing the radiator, what's stopping me from switching me VG30D with a next gen (90-95) VG30DT? (Basically it's engine envy, I loathe and despise beat up firebirds and camaros that want to race me; all the time)
All the details you could give me, the better! Thanks for your time!

Re: Engine Swap?
Okay, this sounds dumb. You want to replace the motor because it is running hot?
My advice is to try to fix the problem before you get in over your head with a motor swap. Yo might be surprised to find it fixed for as little as $5.

Re: Engine Swap?
that would involve a lot of work and money.
as i understand it basically whole new engine bay, tranny, electrical, ecu, motor/tranny mounts?, suspension. LOTS of money and problems.

Re: Engine Swap?
first thing to check is your radiator cap. if it doesnt seal properly it WILL cause overheating. if that's not it, then have your radiator recored.
150k is nothing on these cars. all of mine have nearly that many or more miles on them and they're pretty healthy. one of mine has 243k miles on it, and is starting to burn oil though. I'm planning on replacing the rings and valve guides/seals and keeping her on the road.
it's hard to find a low mileage used engine, and a brand new one will run about 1200 bucks or so. that's just for the block and heads too. add to that all the gaskets you will need for the bolt on items, and fresh vacuum lines you will have to install and the number will really start to grow quickly.

Re: Engine Swap?
have you even bothered to try and fix the overheating? it is prolly just a stuck thermostat ($8). at most you will need to put a new radiator in ($120)...big deal.
but if you wanna swap
dude just put a VG30ET in. You can get up to 400 horse from any 84-89 turbo engine with a big turbo, jim wolf 400 eccs kit plus intake and exhaust. you will be able to waste most anything that tries race you. yes, most camaros, firebirds, stock z32tt's supras, you will beat them all..
and it will be easier to put in than the VG30DETT
