Saw this over lunch

I had to drive over to another building during work today. While I was there, I saw this. Why not take a picture on the way out and share it? I don't know if this means that giant wings are finally going out of style, as there's no way to put a wing on an all-glass hatchback like this anyway. But it seems a relatively newer trendy thing is rear "diffusers". Why spend money and time for a modification when you can just get a $5 holesaw at Home Depot?
cheers,
Dave

Honduh bumpers are actually REALLY REALLY heavy so cutting holes will lighten them while retaining SOME rigidity...

I have a sticky note pad & pen in my car at all times, so when I see an atrocity such as this, I write a "nice" note and stick it on the windshield.

lol, they stole that from drag cars. newer drag cars are cutting the holes back there so tehy can keep the stock look, but not build up the air back there that creates alot of wind resistance and turbulance. but on a car like that, pointless.... kinda like wings, fast cars with wings corner better, those cars with wings.... rice!

cutting holes in the PLASTIC portion of the bumper is useless though

no its not, the plastic portion is shaped like a scoop, so instead of re-designing it you can simply cut holes for the air to escape from for better all around aerodynamics, the rear wont float, less drag, etc.... i might have pictures to show you what i mean.

I tend to agree with this, but it could be one of those things someone should submit to Mythbusters for confirmation one way or the other.

haha, that would be cool, but they would use like some pick up truck and only acclerate to like 50 and get minimal results. for real proof you'd need to have acar run the quarter mile in under 11 sec and hit 130+mph u know something that will utilize every aerodynamic feature possible. also, its just common sense, its like when i was watchin horse power TV and they had to make solid fenderwells much bigger to in order to get teh front to stop swaying cause their car was catching to much air up front.

DAMN YOU PHYSICS!!!!

lol, the new SI's could easily, but that wasnt my point, im saying in this format on this car it is pointless, but they stole it from the drag cars that are supposed to look stock, aka not tubbed out and crap.

you could always just get a piece of sheet metal and make a rear belly pan and have it look "stock" there not looking for the best way to reduce the drag they are just looking for the cheapest and therefore crappiest way to reduce the problem.. IMHO they should just give up trying to be fast and go drive there cars because of the gas mileage and not because they have seen a civic on the FATF.

im not talking about civics, im talking about all drag cars with similare plastic rear bumpers, like DSM's supra's etc, and they dont do the sheet metal thing because it adds weight and can catch the air and throw the piece off in a dangerous manner. this is just better solution all around. ill do some more research on it in the morning, till then. GET OFF MY CASE! lol

if you have an IQ higher then 20, then you would NEVER buy a DSM civic or supra. the only car i think Mitsubishi made right was the evo, starion and the IS300, and the only 4cyl that belongs on a drag strip is a bike...

i dont hate honda, i hate most hondas. honda made the NSX and still makes the s2k, both very nice cars imo, and their acura line has some very nice cars. also, the hondah pilot is very nice, they are really making their interiors very luxurious now. and you realise the evo that you think was done right, is the same damn thing as DSM right? DURRR.... also, the supra has a very astute motor, looks nice, only problem it has is traction. IS300 is the same motor as the supra but using an aluminium block format, and is made by toyota not mitsubishi. and its better in the altezza format (turbo charged 4 cylinder). and back on evo's, they use the same motor, same driveline, and very similare chassis as the eclipses, talons, and old galant VR-4's.... all also DSM's. DSM was originally diamond star motors when they came out with the eagle division, but widely accepted as any car with a 4G63. the old hyundai elantra's used a non turbo 4G63 type power plant same with the colts and mirages, all great sleepers with the swap. hoov, everything you said in ur last statement was wrong. lol. not a single sentance was correct.

I never thought much about the Eagle Talons back when they first came out, but I bought a '90 Talon TSI awd for the wife a few months ago. It already had quite a bit of modifications done to it (like most still on the road do) so it's putting out somewhere around 300-330hp out of that whimpy little 4 banger, with a lot more power available with minimal aftermarket bolt-ons . I am now in the position of having to do a serious engine swap in my '82 ZX next summer, along with some suspension work if I ever hope to be nearly as quick or handle nearly as well as her car does. For the record, most of the awd turbo DSM's that are still on the road (especially the first generations 89-93) will smoke 85-90% of the Datsun/Nissan Z cars anytime anywhere. I'm looking at swapping in a RB25DET or RB26DETT to even the odds a bit lol. Back to the original topic, guys have been cutting holes in the back panels on RC cars lexan bodies for years to cut down on wind resistance and lift. I doubt it would do much on a fullsize car for lift, but giving the air a way to escape might help a little bit if you had the power to actually go fast enough.
