MK3 Supra

So I'm thinking of picking up a newer DD for getting to work, etc. and I'm starting to eye the MK3 Supras. Anyone have any experiences with them? I know about some of the inherent problems of the 7M (blown head gaskets being the main issue), but I'm open to people's prior experiences/opinions.

I'm personally looking at getting a turbo model since the n/a ones are just way too slow and heavy for me.

Thanks!

I like the way they drive, but the interior just remind too much of a z31's, good car until it caught fire. why try for a stock FC rx-7? as long as you keep i stockish the apex seals should remain in the motor and give you years of great gas mileage and they handle pretty decent out of the box.

well what about the head gasket problem with them, i see people complain about it alot and about having to replace it but i never see any thing about them decking the head/block for possible warpage and i know its probally happened, plus you have to consider the age of the car, and head will warp over time from the constant heat up and cool down

My roommate has a MKIII. He fully rebuilt his 7M and he's still worried about BHGs and Rod Knock, which is what happen when the HG goes.

He just picked up a 2JZ [no ****!] and he's rebuilding that for a GT35R.

I personally wouldn't touch a MKIII - too heavy and the 7M is just anemic, but that's just me.

But.... They do have a decent suspension and LSDs are STOCK. Something I'm reminded of daily haha

the FC's can be a sexy sexy car, i actually agree with hoov on this one. and the FC made less power than the FD but also had an older version of the wankel which was more reliable so you can beat on it more than the average FD. biggest problem with rotary engines is heat. 99% of the reason why they fail. upgrade the cooling system and get a good aftermarket temp gauge, should be just fine.

The 7M's headgasket problem is solved by switching to a metal gasket. It's the asbestos stock ones that cause the problem in the first place.

Thanks for the suggestions and opinions. I'm trying to stay with an inline 6, but I'll give the FC a look too. A friend of mine had a Turbo II way back in the day, but other than that I don't have too much experience with the rotary motors. You all are right though, they do corner extremely well. BTW, how's the gas mileage on a FC? With my friend's 7mgte Cressida I was able to average about 25-26 mpg.

well, with a 1.3L motor and a 3k pound car, its all a matter of keeping your foot out of it.
