looking to buy an s.u.v.

well brianne and i are looking to buy an suv. im wondering what some ppls thoughts on various thoughts on some models are. the ones we have definatly considered for quality and looks are: 1999 land rover range rover, 1998 nissan pathfinder, 2000ish nissan xterra, and 1993-1998 toyota 4runner. the 4 runner is kinda on the expensive side for the same years as the rest we can buy. currently briannes trade in (2003 galant) is worth 12,000 cdn. we can get all of the above suvs for almost a direct trade in. they all get about the same gas mileage (including the galant believe it or not) the only difference is the parts cost for the rover, cant find things like radiators at online parts places like napa. what are everyones thoughts, they are all welcome good or bad.

I'm a big 4Runner fan. They are simple and reliable. But of course I have to mention... um... the... BMW X3/X5's. Tho those are still quite pricey.

i wouldnt get caught dead in a jeep, sorry they just break too much and have abosolutly no leg room, i have driven fixed and broken jeeps!! but thanks, i did look into them, and the 4 runners up here, they are rusted out big time if they are pre 95, the 80's ones barely exist!

dont really feel like it, it also has to go thru a huge inspection, get daytime running lights put in, and be impounded for 3 weeks. we were kinda wanting to trade in briannes galant. its gonna be real hard to get rid of that car, its just such a good little car.

why a SUV?

you need 4 wheel drive? How's about a Subaru? Save a bit on gas (petrol) or whatever you call it. If you have your heart set on a larger vehicle Xterra, 4 runner, Pathfinder, extended cab Tacoma's might work for ya, not sure why you want an SUV, perhaps you have 4 kids or something, like to picnic, travel with a band, not really any of my business. Seems you know well enough to stay away from Fords and Chevys. cheers!

4runners get approx 16-17 miles per gallon. How could your Gallant get that bad of milage? Is it a V8?

SUVs are the devil... that is all...

we will lose about 1000 a year in gas money at the curent amount of driving we do, but that may go down, we nike more and go out less, soo.... took the range rover out today for a spin, it feels much nicer than any other suv ive been in, very comfy and great technology for the price compred to others. i phone the dealer for knowledge and parts, i also phoned napa to see what my prices are for regular items. the thing needs brakes, so ther goes 600 plus tax. they are willing to trade straight up for the galant. we have not made any solid decisions yet, nor will we until more research is done. turns out 99 is the last good year of rover until just recently because of the ford take over. and yes it sounds dumb, but we kinda need it, our lifestlye suits it, we go biking, up to the cabin on rough dirt roads (yes the arent all paved in canada) and we may be getting foster kids and some of our own (after a year or 2) so space is a issue, specially hauling my race car on the trailer. the rover is basically a truck and can haul a little over 5500 lbs, so it can do my racecar.

sounds like you have a problem

and I know what it is!! you spend too much time out doors exercising and having fun and not enough time working overtime to afford the kind of SUV you need to make your outdoor life style worth while.

here's the fix;

1. Sell a kid
2. Life insurance/ one of you has to die (this works best if its the one that's
insured).
3. Stop paying taxes
4. Win money!

actually ive been working 7am till 5pm, sometimes 6pm. my normal shift is 8:30am to 5pm, so thats already lots, dont have a kid to sell yet. one of us could die tho. hmmm......... and gotta play to win. the average lotto player spends 250,000 in a lifetime on tickets, and thats after any payouts they get. i figure by not playing, im 250,000 richer. ahhahaha. and theres some things in life that just never go away, taxes, i could kill brian mulrooney

the brand new range rover is a kickass SUV. my mom has one, and it is great. faster and better around a corner than my z or my stepdads porsche. that self leveling suspention is amazing. and a guy in our neiborhood took his hunting, said it was rock solid doing 60 across a pasture.

well all canadians threaten to kill him regularly, he is quite the guarded man for that (cdn secret service) this thing can sit low too, and has the stability managment button, just dont quite know how to use it, it prolly doesnt handle as well as your moms, more primative, but still nice. there gonna let me put it on the hoist and take it apart, hopefully i get some more barganing chips other than the brakes. i could always call my buddies at the road side check squad, and get them to take it off the road if they get me mad!! hehe

well ppl, we ended up buying a 2000 xterra. they are actually quite nice. we actually rescued it from a honda dealership! 128000km on it and the proper maintanence has been done on it and it looks to be very well looked after. drives nice and brianne is happy. the range rover thing never worked, buncha ***** at that place, wanted 6000 more than they initially told us !?!?!?! range rovers arent worth that, so we moved on.
