Triple Carb Emmissions Woes
I was hoping someone might shed some light on this: I have a set of triple Delortos on my 280 motor. I have meticulously rebuilt them and set them up per suggestions by a group in England who are familiar with these carbs and most (racing) applications. It runs too rich to pass the test here in AZ. I reduced the main jet size which seems to have helped some. But to get it to pass, do I have to reduce the main jet size until it bearly runs to get it to pass? Or does it become a race only?

I never tried this on a set of tripples for a Z but I did get a set of dual 45 Webers to pass in Oregon. I couldn't ever get it clean enough by jet changes alone. I added a catalytic converter just for the test. It easily cleaned things up but ran extremely hot so be careful.
The biggest problem you'll encounter is the accelerator pumps. I had to drop these down a lot to keep the car clean when they ask you to increase revs. A better bet would be to get some SUs and swap these on when you need to pass tests.
