A little OT.. I'm getting sued!
Well, not really sued, yet, but that got your attention huh?
I got a certified letter from a law firm representing a toy company in Japan that has apparently taken offense to the usage of the GTZILLA monster on www.gtzilla.com They aren't to happy about the zilla portion either, but I don't think they can do much about that. Anyway they asked me to remove the fins and change the color (they suggested blue or red) so there would be no confusion with the "real" Godzilla. Like there is a real Godzilla and he'd be pissed if I didn't do it and stomp the crap out of Tokyo.
So I guess they will "allow" me to use the "zilla" portion if the monster is fin-less and non-green. Maybe I should paint him purple... no then Barney would sue. How about I color him beige and give him a purse?
I've heard about this stuff but it's never happen to me. This is just to funny that my little website featuring a little green monster logo would generate a probably $1000 letter. So I guess that I'll have to comply and change ole GTZILLA to a different color.
Gotta love corparate America!

My cousin who was a lawyer for New Yorker magazine took me to a resturaunt of the same name in Salt lake City when I lived there. She was checking graphics on their menus and signage to make sure it was not similar to the magazine's. Apparently if enough people use similar imagery, names, graphics you can loose your ownership. Or come to think of it maybe she just wanted lunch. My advice would be don't mess with Godzilla. I have seen what he can do in his movies.

After further review, basically what they are saying is (if you read the 10 pages that they sent me) that any reptile type image that is green and has fins on the back, they own.
I can see if I had taken one of their pictures and modified it or used it whole with out thier permission, but this is a cartoon drawing of a monster with a helmet. Not even close to anything that they market.
So what I have decided to do is call the local newspapers and tv stations to see if they what to pick up on this as a human interest story. Big corp threatening little guy.
I will also let then know that they better keep their hands off the GTZilla moniker.
