China only wants to economically and politically dominate the Pacific region, they don't want to occupy much of anything outside of Taiwan. They have a large Army but what is more worrisome is that they are modernizing the PLAAF and the PLAN to counter US systems deployed in WESTPAC specifically the USN's carrier strike groups and the USAF's airborne C2 and tactical aircraft borne munitions.
The US is powerful not only because of our economy, but because we can project power anywhere in the world. All of the countries that decry US power scream for the US to help them out when their neighbor beats on them or a natural disaster occurs. China lacks that capability for the next 50 years and it's difficult to tell if they even want that kind of capability or responsibility.
Australia is a beautiful country but you don't call them when KJI sets off a nuke 150 miles from your border or when someone parks 20K combat troops on your border looking to invade your country...you call the good ol' US of A.
