Okay... maybe I'll stick w/ this one?

I've been through so many vehicles lately, I feel like a "car *****." So I got a motorcycle.

1986 Kawasaki 454 LTD, belt driven. It has 18K miles, and not a thang wrong. The guy I bought it from drove it to work, one day it wouldn't start and killed the battery trying, so he parked it over the summer... got sick of seeing it, and sold it to me for $600. I bought a new battery & tried to start it... good spark, wouldn't start. After 2 hours of messing w/ it, I found out that the fuel shut off valve was in the off position... turn it on... crank crank crank, and it starts.

Anything yellow. I know, I've always thought motorcycles are death on wheels... but I've wanted one to cruise around town for better mpg. It definitely won't be my primary mode of transportation.

Sweeet! Another biker on the board.

Just be careful and wear your protective gear. And like Shady said, watch out for those cell-phone talking soccer moms.

But otherwise, have fun! Theres nothing like the freedom and exhiliration of a motorcycle....

Good luck with the bike, nephew hit a deer on one ( he lived with a lot of plaster), when i met my wife she had a Honda Goldwing in the basement and a new Bell helmet in a box in the attic. When I asked why a new boxed helmet she explained that when you break a helmet Bell is nice enough to replace it with a new one, which explained the Goldwing in the basement.

Sweet bike!

Reason why I can't have any more motorcycles:

1 Motorcycle + 1 truck going way too fast = 47 broken bones, 6 months in Hospital, 19 surgeries and 1 REALLY bad day.

I still like 'em though

Rod.

i dont mean to scare ya, just dont wanna another buddy to die, or come close. heck you may make it a coupla years without wrecking. bkies are cool, id have one too, if everyone rode one, cause then its a little more fair if someone hits ya. it would have to be 600cc+ cause thats just the way i am!!

I've been lucky....12 years of riding and have never been down, and I've had nothing but sportbikes and riding in the town with possibly the stupidest drivers on earth. (of course this don't count the time I had a fat chick on the back and made too sharp of a turn into a parking spot at a Mexican restaurant...). You just have to be careful.....most motorcycle crashes CAN be avoided. You just have to have a defensive attitude and NEVER assume someone in a car sees you, even if they look right at you. Also, a good idea to put a finger over your front brake lever when going thru intersections, just in case.

Z Hag, IMO, riding a motorcycle is alot more fun WITH a helmet. Less noise, less wind, and a hella better chance of survival if you do go down. And modern helmets are very light weight and comfortable (and look pretty cool), and don't believe the Harley riders argument that helmets obstruct your vision and hearing, thats been disproven time and time again. Theres no helmet law here in IL but I ALWAYS wear a helmet. Its just not worth the risk....

Cute little pea-shooter. My dirt bike has a bigger motor.

There are two types of motorcycle riders ..... Those that have crashed, and those that are going to crash. My dad road and raced motorcycles for over 50 years. At age 65 he took the motorcycle safety training course and said he learned ALOT. I'd consider that good advice for anyone that wants to ride a street bike and survive.
