A golf GTI is probably a better first car. Sorry, not what you wanted to hear, I know, but the fact.

a VW? ya, its more reliable if its brand new! If its a comparable value, then its a late 80's Golf and it will not be more reliable and the parts will be a lot more expensive. He must be a VW lover...

that's too bad, but you can keep reading up on Zs and when you turn 18 you can legally own your own car. Get yerself a Z then.

I'm sorry but I think your dad is being retarded about this. Especially considering the money and parts you got into it. That is totally friggin' lame, and my parents would never have done that to me. They might tell me their opinion on how junky my cars are. But they never would have sold them, without my approval. It just isn't right, and man that just burns me. But that is what sucks about not being an adult. Good luck to you man, hope all works out for you.

just make it impossible to sell. Remove a relay or something so it doesn't run. Then he'll have a harder time selling it. That might buy you enought time to talk him out of selling it. Then tell him if you fix it can you keep it

good point man, how about this? unplug the fuel pump wire that is under the rear mat. it cuts the fuel off to engine, he would be cranking until the battery is dead. LOL

noo is right

vws are junk i was a vw audi specialist for 3 years and let me tell you they are the mother of recalls and the most rediculous things breaking. i had a mk4 vr6 gti and man o man the window clips broke on both sides one in the winter, the oil pan placment is the worst their known for people knocking holes in them. the cold start sensor goes bad like every year, headgaskets are junk, vr6 trannys cant handle the meager 200 hp youll have to replace that, the glove box cover always breaks, they drip tons of oil in to the intake, they have very noisy valves, handling sucks, ect ect. and thats just the mk4s i can go on for days about the mk2 and mk3 models theyre even worse, the mk3s do not buy what so ever money pit of doom please trust me, youll have about a 30 percent chance of getting stranded in that car when it rains. moisture is an mk3s enemy. show your dad this maybye hell change his mind. honestly my daily driver is a 92 integra, i hate honda/ acura for what people do to them but they are number one reliable. hope i was of some help.

Hey Iluvjdm Maybee You Should Get Your Dad On The Site And Read This, Maybee We Can Set Him Straight. I Think It Is Crock That He Wreck Your Dreams, As A Father He Should Support Your Life And Wish The Best For You, What He Is Doing Is Bad Parenting. Selling Your Car Is Lame, Stoping You From Doing Illeagal Things, Now That Would Be Great Parenting. Show Him Some Pics Of Our Finished Cars To Show Him Your Goals. After All It Is Your Money, Isnt It.

just go to a parts website and start looking at the prices for VW parts. my stepdad used to buy salvage cars and rebuild them to sell. he did one VW, said it was the biggest money pit he had ever seen in his life, and sold it for a loss. the Z on the other hand is a very reliable car. it's not bad to work on, parts arent rediculously expensive, and 1000% better looking than a crappy golf. and FWD sucks too. good luck on keeping the Z.

yeah speaking of which, I almost got a '83 VW Sirocco, back in '04. When at the same time, saw my Celica. I was looking for a 4 banger, with good mileage. To save on gas. And I told my dad about the VW, and he was like no way, do not buy that piece of junk. They are a headache, and have a lot of problems. He suggested me to buy the Celica, and I am glad I took his advice on that.

Smile Thnaks guys!

Thanks for the advice guys! I appreciate it! I thought about sabotaging the car like you guys mentioned but then my dad will get my uncle to fix it lol. If anything Im trying to convince him to keep the ZX as like a weekend drift car. Thats what I was building it up as (ANYone Drift with their Zxs?). And as for the daily driver car Im trying to see if he'll get an Acura RSX-S instead, good thing about them is that you can get them certified preowned. So far hes tooken my keys and everything is uncertain, for all I know the car could be taken to his shop by monday and then put up for sale, Im still trying to talk to him see if he calms down a bit...

if you want a good performance car, stay away from the rsx's. My friend has raced the regular rsx, and totally dusted it in his 79 280zx, and it doesn't even run at top shape. Not to mention, the fwd on those cars is poorly set up, where it will induce understeer at the slightest sharp cornering.

Dam he really beat a RSX? Well im sure his 280zx wasnt stock and the rsx probably was. Plus I assuming that by regular you mean it wasnt type s? Well regular has only 160hp at the crank but the type s(which is what im planning for) has 200hp.

hey man not to push in the wrong direction but, if someone were like im taking your old z and buying you a type s id be like are you serious hell friggin yeah thats cool ill just buy another z in like 2 months. no offense to the z but an rsx is one sweet daily driver, and im assuming your young so you need something reliable. if its between the type s and a gti your father shouldnt even be considering the vw. if he wants to know what vw parts cost tell him to talk to me, im a vw catologue.

I don't think telling your father that you want to keep the ZX for a weekend drift car is a great idea. You're not even 16 and you want to drift/race with any car....as a father, he's smart in taking anything fast away from you. He should however get you something reliable and definitely slow like a civic DX (90's). I know I'm the Debbie Downer of the bunch, but life isn't all about Z's...Z's aren't good first cars for most kids...period.

ya, so he's selling your $1000 Datsun and buying you a $18,000 car? Just take the new VW or Acura... whatever you get will be better than the Z for now since you're spoiled. He'll probably take the new car back just before you're 18 anyway... enjoy it while it lasts.

Dude Ill be 18 in 22days ok? Oh and BTW, I wish I could get a 92-95 civic Dx hatchback so I can do a B16 swap and have a 200+hp all-motor car that only weighs 2100lbs(a 280zx weighs almost 700lbs more!). I was actually gonna buy one myself. But I cant cause their old and unreliable! which is the whole point of the Z selling. I told him Im gonna drift it cause thats what he said he was gonna do it when he bought it for himself then later gave it to me (I then told him if he wanted to drift he should bought a 240sx, which I love!). Oh and I want the RSX-S, not my Dad, he wants the VW and he might not get me the RSX anyway. And even if I did get a RSX I cant do anything thatll void the warranty so no engine work which means Ill be driving same RSX as 234,869 other ppl. Whatever though it's not in my hands anymore, I gotta move out soon!

ugh, just what the world needs, another freaking civic with a b16 swap. if you want to be like everybody else in the world, get the RSX or the civic. if you want to be original, keep the Z.

civic's aren't reliable when used the way they're supposed to. You don't need to enter a money pit. turning 18...whatever, do you have a substantial steady income to pay for a modded car? I'm telling you from experience, I don't and I'm hooked to modded turbo cars. I'm not 21 with 3 cars, have owned 3 Z's (2 currently) and 3 turbo cars. The TT's are great and pretty fairly reliable, but I put a lot of time into it to keep it reliable. I save a lot of money by doing things mself. don't get addicted to such a money pit like I am...this will save you headaches!
