New 400z
New 400z
So I see that Nissan is planning on releasing the new 400Z in a few weeks. All sources seem to say that it will be powered by a turbo 3.0L v6 from whatever Infiniti they're taking it from.
Now, the car looks cool, I kinda like it. And the thing is getting so much praise, but seriously not a single soul seems to take issue with the 400Z being powered by a 3.0L engine? Not a fan in the comments section, not a car magazine as old as Car & Driver, just nobody has mentioned a single word about it. I don't know, it's almost like they could call it the 2022 300Z or something?... I mean, just saying. Every Z car since 1970 had an engine displacement that matched their name (240z was 2.4l, the one year only 260z was essentially a 240 with a 2.6l stuffed under the hood, the 280z was 2.8l, the 280zx was a 2.8l, both generations of the 300zx were 3.0l, the 350z had a 3.5l, the 370z has a 3.7l... see where I'm going?), why the heck would they break suit now on their most iconic car? When I heard a 400z was coming out I automatically assumed it would be a big ole 4.0L, why else would it be named that? Are they so afraid of marketing a car with a lower number than the last model that they're gonna completely disregard the whole point of naming it that? They could just turbo the 3.7L and have a 2nd gen 370Z, or hell call it a 370zx for old time's sake! If they're gonna go smaller on the engine but can't stand to assign it a numerical name lower than the previous generation then they might as well just call it the Fairlady Z like they do in Japan, not like this isn't gonna be the last internal combustion sports car Nissan ever makes unfortunately. Might as well use up that last name and not silly up the naming scheme for no reason right at the end...
*sigh* sorry just had to rant and couldn't figure out where else to post it because every article I see posted about it wants you to sign up with facebook or google, which obviously I do not have because I am not insane lol.
