For $600 you could to a turbo engine swap, just find a cheap l28et. To get more mpg's, just keep your foot out of it. Or put a thinner head gasket on it. More compression means more mpg's. That's why Honda's get good mileage, they use like a 11.5:1 cr in most of their engines. You could probably get away with 10:1 on stock boost and a good tune.

Damn that's expensive. You can find a complete turbo car for about that much in OK.

Taller gears is a good idea, I didn't think about that.

I had a 3.36 rear end in my 260z and the 1981 5 speed with the .745 5th. I believe that's the tallest gear ratio combination. I got 28mpg highway on that with crappy 240z su's that needed a rebuild. With a passenger and crap in the back. I dropped 1000rpm at 70mph over the stock 4 speed manual.

i dont think it would be a wise idea to do a do a tight budget turbo conversion/swap if the car is going to be his DD.

z31 EFI swap, making sure all the tires spin freely, check the wheel bearings, if you live in a real dusty area getting a paper cone filter instead of some oily gauze filter, dial in your timing, check the cat and muffler...etc

I thought the Z31 swap was only for turbo cars? Or is it still plug and play for the N/A cars as well?
