Okay so I purchased a 300 zx with 70000 miles. I had it towed home in neutral and ended up with a car with no reverse. It used to work fine but after a 110 mile trip in nuetral with back wheels rolling, my reverse stopped working....the reverse light works fine but it simply does not drive backwards. It goes foward but not in reverse. Is my transmission gone? What could be the problem. How do I fix it? Please help.

if you would really like answers that would help you and avoid flames give the following info when you post: year of car, n/a or turbo engine, stick or slushbox, digital or analog dash. Most of us can tell by the year what model you have ie 85T is a turbo z31. Z cars come in many flavors and they are all different. example 84,85,86 Z31's pretty comparable. there were changes in 87,88,89. in addition 300ZX can refer to two completly different cars the Z31 and the Z32. No mindreaders here the more info you can post the more likely you get a cogent useful answer. The cars with L engine (straight six) changed almost yearly from their introduction. A 240Z and and a 280Z have similarities but they can also have wide variance.

Sorry I didnt specify, its a 91, Z32 Automatic N/A 2+2...it has an analog dash....slushbox...I like it

Take it to a tranny shop and ask them what they think. I believe there is a clutch like device in the tranny that can burn out but I'm only familiar with stick. If you are friendly and plead poverty they will usually give out some free advice. Dealer might even be some help probably someone there who has dealt with early tranny editions.
