Thinking of parting with this '85 Turbo Cream Puff
Thinking of parting with this '85 Turbo Cream Puff
I've held onto it for a long time, but I'm considering selling it. I'd be happy to list all the details, but I figure I should probably wait until I have a price in mind. Suffice it to say everything works - it runs great, turbo still boosting, 5-speed. Only negative, it drips power steering fluid. Original stereo is available. What range should I be looking for?

160,000 miles. In Central Texas.
Thanks in advance!

Looks like a cool Z. If there is no rust on frame, floors, body, etc., I would take big, clear photos of everything inside and out and then check Craigslist around the country for average prices of same-year Zs in similar condition. Pick a price and post it, first in your area, then in other areas. Rust is a big deal with Zs so photo all of it and be honest.
Take offers via text, phone and/or email, your choices. Craig's attracts the lunatics and millions of scammers so be ready for that. Do not accept checks or give out any Paypal or personal info. Just say the car is 'as posted.' Send more photos if requested. Tell any prospective buyer to show up with cash or go away. Important: Nobody drives it except you, ever, until the title is signed. Potential buyers all get the same wonderfully comfortable passenger seat. What a great ride!
(The big Craig's scam is to send you a check for twice the amount you are asking. They tell you to pay the difference to the person who will pick the car up and drive it away. You cash the check, pay the driver, car is gone - and the check bounces. Neat. Your bank wants you to pay the whole amount back - plus fees for a bounced check
You have no choice. Just pay it back.)
If it is in near-mint condition (do not hide the flaws, be straight with potential buyers) post it on Ebay, for sale at a price, not at auction. Raise your price but accept offers. Ebay: huge market, fewer scammers and lunatics than Craig's, but there are fees - and be prepared to accept a good offer. But don't leave important info out of your listing. List all of the flaws and problems with the Z that you know about.
Craig's gives you no protection against scammers. Ebay does.

Thanks for all the info. There's a lot to process. No rust. Interior is very clean. Vinyl on driver's seat is wearing out.Elec windows, elec antenna, door locks, all work.Starts fast, New shocks, A/C compressor etc. But two grand? Even at $4k I wouldn't be motivated to sell it. I was hoping that in this condition it might be rare enough to warrant $7500 or so. Might give it a good wax job and stick a sign on it. Ebay sounds like an interesting possibility.
