Here's your reply: 14" tires suck which means 14" rims suck. No one is looking to go same or smaller than stock. Come back with a nice set of 16" or better with adapters and you'll get more replies than you can handle. The e.s.a.d was way past inappropriate. Move on to the loser sites, only Z fans here.

I'm a glutton for punishment, so here I go ...

I don't mean to rub you the wrong way, CWHammer, but I find nothing wrong with 14" wheels or the corresponding tires. I'm running 14's on both my Z and my Grand Am, and by brother has 14's on his 260Z (which sees weekly auto-x use). I happen to like the smaller rim / larger tire deal, because -in the case of my Grand Am- it gives the car a more neutral feel, and a larger sidewall = less shock transmitted to the suspension, vehicle body, etc. (which is good for rallying). In the case of my Z, 14" tires are dirt-cheap, and I can get long-lasting tires for the rear (I'm a drifter, in case you didn't know ... ). If I had the money, I'd buy those Centerlines off you, DeadMeat ... however, my wallet is dangerously thin due to an engine buildup I've got going on right now. I'll have to agree with the hammer, as the comment was inappropriate, and I took offense to it.
There's my two cents - spend it wisely!

Another benefit of 14" wheels is they weigh so much less that larger wheels with tires that are the same overall diameter.

Yeah I think hammer is wrong, but you were out of line too DeadMeat, no need to get pissed at us for being poor

I apologize to the 14" skin lovers. I am running the 14" factory rims myself. I took offense to the E.S.A.D. I appreciate the knowledge shared here and won't accept some bonehead disrespecting the people who contribute helpfull information.

On the other hand, Anyone know how to calculate the difference in speedo calibration for smaller tires. I plan on kicking the factory 195 70 14 for some 225 60 14s. I'm poor too but next spring are the 225 45 17s and new rims.

Actually I don't think you'll see but a 1-2 mph difference if any at all. See when you increase the width and take away from the sidewall, it all comes out in the wash...for the most part. I personally wouldn't worry about it.

The size you are changing too is the proper tire size! It is actually slightly smaller diameter than stock. At 60mph you will have a 0.3mph difference. (you'll be traveling 59.7

But, even 205-60-15 which is the factory size for the turbo cars is slightly different by a tiny bit like that. Less than 1mph difference is considered to be accurate.

Its all in the math.
A 195/70R14 tire is 7.68" Wide and 24.76" Tall
A 225/60R14 tire is 8.86" Wide and 24.64" Tall
The difference is.120" You will never see the difference!
Ok lets go up another size
A 225/45R17 tire is 8.86" Wide and 24.98" Tall
Now I'll school those that dont know how to figure out tire size dimensions:
Take your first number ex.(195) this means the tire is 195mm wide. Now most of us use standard measurement so we will have to convert this to SAE. To convert mm to SAE you divide mm# by 25.4 and this will give you the width in standard. EX.195/25.4=7.68 thats your width in inches.
Now take your second number 70 this is the percentage % of sidewall compaired to the width. Take your first number 7.68 and multiply it by 70% .7 and this will give you side wall height 5.38" this number is only one side of the tire, so you will now take 5.38 X 2 =10.76 then add your rim dia. 14" this will give you your overall height of 24.76" tall
This will work on any size tire and rim. Use this fomula figure out what size you have stock. Then if you want to run bigger rims you can do the math to figure out what size will be the closest to the stock size. Or you can see how much bigger or smaller the new set will be!
