1981 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 For Sale

The unfortunate time has come for me to part ways with my only project car from this past year. My brother has officially signed over his FC Rx7 to me, and my parents have made it clear I cannot have both cars in our driveway. So, she goes on the auction block.

The vehicle in question is a 1981 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 GL, 5-speed non-turbo.

The body is in "fair" condition, and is really the only serious work the car needs. Used front fenders and airdam would run only about $140 in good condition. Paint is less than desireable, but is all there. Primer covers most of the driver's side. Rust is only an issue in a small few places on the body, but is mostly concentrated on the right front fender, forward of the strut tower.

As for the interior, there's not much to speak of, being mostly gutted and sparing nothing in the process. I will throw in two dark red bucket seats from a 1989 Nissan Maxima, which I was going to install in the future. Custom bracket mounts will need to be fabricated for these seats. The rear seats are in my opinion excellent condition, though they could use a vacuum and shampoo. I will sell the car as is, with the dashboard disassembled, though I can reassemble it upon request.

Engine and drivetrain are in good shape, the only problem being the clutch hydraulic system. New or remanufactured clutch master and slave cylinders will be required, but only retail for $45 for both. Clutch itself, is in overall excellent condition. The engine leaks oil at the cam cover seal, and burns a slight amount of oil in cylinder #4. The engine runs strong. I've bought a new cap, rotor, wires, and Denso plugs, so the ignition is set to go.

Suspension is another weak point of the car, though the amount of work is minimal. Only new struts are required for this car [KYB GR2 gas struts are an excellent replacement option here, and for all 4, are priced at $200], though an alignment would be a good idea as well. The car comes with 215/60-14 RoadHugger Radial G/T tires, with less than 200 miles on them, on the stock 6-spoke Z wheels.

Pictures can be seen at the bottom of the page at the following link: http://wanganmidnight.com/forums/showthread.php?t=417

I don't want to sell my baby - she's been a good project car, but I've had no money to work with, and cannot have two projects in the same driveway.

I'm asking $400 or best offer. You must work out shipping/transport yourself, I will not deliver, sorry.

Any questions, comments, etc. would be accepted and greatly appreciated, just send them to dorifto.motorsports@Gmail.com or reply in this thread.

Most excellent, NismoPick. Definitely get in touch with him, if you could please. I'd love to sell to someone local, if at all possible.

[EDIT] SHOOT! I forgot to mention it's the T-top model. Both T-tops are leak free, though the passenger side top has a large spider crack in it. Will eventually need replacing.[EDIT]

Again, thanks.

Okay guys, she's still up for grabs. Unfortunately, I need to get her out of my driveway before the parents have BOTH my cars junked ...

Like I said, I'm asking $400 OBO - this Zed would make an excellent track project, and is very streetable, given that bodywork and struts are done/replaced.

Hmm ... I'd love to sell it to ya, NismoPick ... maybe there's part of your backyard where the grass isn't so green that you could park her on ...

A friend of mine from http://www.wanganmidnight.com is thinking about buying her for the $2006 Challenge coming up [don't ask me about it, I dunno anything ], but his problem would be getting it back to Arkansas.

She'd make a great track project, and seeing as how the new Miller Motorsports Park opens on Sept 7th, any Utahn here should be looking for a project! Wait ... it's just you and I, huh Nismo?

Nismo, you know I'm bringing my Rx7 to the track ... we'll have to kick out a couple laps sometime. Hey, are you going to the Sept. 7th opening at the Delta Center? If you are, I can meet up with you in Sandy and we can hit it up together.

On another note, I might be parting out my Zed, so if anyone wants something, let me know, and I'll see if it's in good enough condition to sell.

Okay guys, I guess I'mma start parting her out then. Seems nobody around here wants the whole car, so if there's something you want, make me an offer I can't refuse.

I've got just about everything, minus interior bits and outer bodywork. So, let me know.

Hey, 81 Black L28E, are you still thinking about the 5-speed swap? I've got everything you need, aside from the master and slave cylinders [they'll need to be replaced anyway].

It's a 2+2 right? That means it came with a 3.9 R200 correct? Well if this is the case then how much do want for the diff? I know you can remove the cover and check the ring gear for a "39:10" stamped on it to make sure. Price just for the diff itself, not the axles or anything like that. I've got C/V's off my turbo parts car but I don't want the 3.54 rear end.

It'd be a 2+2 with the 3.9 R200. Good condition, just a bit greasy.

Make me an offer, Jason. I'm sure we can agree on something reasonable.

It WAS blue. I've got everything aside from carpet. It's all in pretty beat condition, but with a little work, they're still good. Everything else is GONE. Wait, my bad, I've got the stock blue 2+2 seats as well, and they're in excellent condition, just need a good vacuum and shampoo.
