This is my JDM Style 1973 Datsun 240z. When I purchased this car from a gentleman in Houston, TX in October of 2004, the Z was in good overall condition. He had owned the car for seven years, and put it through a decent restoration back in 1996. Unfortunately the paint work was sub-par and the 7 year old black paint was starting to show it. The all gray interior was in fair condition and served its purpose but utilized auto zone carpeting. I drove my new purchase three hours back home to Corpus Christi, Texas and it ran like a champ. I continued to drive it daily for about a month before I decided to repair a little rust and make the body a bit nicer, which didn?t stop until it transformed into the car you see pictured here. Next thing I knew the car was in a thousand pieces all over the garage. You can see from the pictures, I took the body all the way down to a shell and proceeded to kill the rust. Once the car was in the body shop I went over the vehicle, found any rust and properly repaired and replaced anything that need be. The rear hatch was replaced with an excellent rust free example from north Texas. The hood was rusty so I tossed it. The fenders had some previous body work so I purchased brand new OEM fenders directly from Nissan. Basically if it wasn't perfect, I replaced it. The body itself was in great shape, the battery tray had been replaced as well as the floor pans. The floors were properly welded in and then covered lightly with fiberglass for added corrosion resistance.
I have included the pictures from the previous owner's restoration, in which the car was media blasted all the way to the bare metal. That was great; however no one took the time to remove all the blasting media from the inner rocker channels, which in turn caused moisture to build up in the dogleg panels. These are the Achilles heel of the z and are notorious for rust. I spent a solid week with compressed air and modified vacuum tubes to remove all the crap in the rocker channels. Once all the inner structures were clean I used a rust inhibitor solvent and then used a under coat to seal the inside of all problem prone areas ,rockers, inner doors , doglegs etc... I was extremely **** about the use of body filler, and made sure it was not used make repairs as so many body shops do. There is very little filler on this car. All repairs were done by welding in any patch metal needed then lightly filled with kitty hair. This is fiber glass reinforced filler and is very hard to work with but lasts almost forever. I have also included pictures of my restoration which was completed in February of 2005. Much to my bank accounts dismay I spent nearly a thousand dollars in paint materials, all DuPont: the best sealers, primers, and paint. I chose 1998 Nissan aspen white glow, a tri-coat paint with a really nice pearl, which shines brilliantly in the sun. The body seals are all new, the windshield is new, all of the interior vinyl is new, as well as the seats. All the carbon pieces are new and hideously expensive. I just installed a new stereo system, Cadence four channel amp, blauplunkt head unit, kick panel speakers, (no holes in the doors), and Cadence 6? mid bass in the rear. This system provides excellent clarity with just the right amount if punch, without the added weight. I?ve also installed a perimeter alarm system with keyless entry. I purchased many parts from Japan, like the mirrors, emblems and the wheels. Man do I dig these rims, they are work equip 03 and they were made just for my ride. I paid out the nose for these bad *** rims and it was well worth the wait, and the price. They are the best quality, super light, and completely unique. These rims were the key to my over all look. As far as the engine is concerned it?s a 2.8 liter 280zx mill. It does not smoke, and the compression is @ 160 psi all the way across the board. It still uses a points distributor, stock cam, and a p79 head. If you wish Rebello racing can shave the head, install a hotter cam, and electronic pickup for about a grand. These mods would get another 30 to 40 horse to the wheels; but it runs perfect as it sits. It has triple side draft Weber carbs 40dcoe with spun aluminum stacks. I spent forever getting these to operate reliably and will include the synchro tool with purchase. I have not had to adjust them again. Suspension wise it has kyb struts, eibach springs and new bushings all the way around. I have taken it to the autocross twice and it performs flawlessly. It also has Toyota 4x4 front brakes, which are a popular upgrade and they work well. I have tried to be as thorough as possible in my description of this beautiful car, and am completely honest. I have included all pictures from both restorations as well as the pictures from the July issue of super street magazine. This car is also being used as a catalog car for the U.S. distributor of work wheels. There are videos of the car being driven, as well as sound bytes of the exhaust note so that you may hear the car. This car has no problems being driven, I have driven it out of town on several occasion to various shows and events with no problems .This car loves the open highway and is a joy to drive, no shakes rattles or vibrations through the wheel, just a wicked exhaust note that is music to your ears. I have over $15000 in receipts that will be given to the buyer.
