camera thread

i hope this is welcome in the dark room.

well my mom is talking about getting me a camera for Christmas. i pretty much just want to take pictures of cars. i'd like to take some pretty good pictures, and a small digital camera is preferred. price cap is going to be pretty close to $200. what do you all recommend. a discontinued camera is fine. it's likely to come from ebay.

so what are your recommendations? i know there are plenty of good photographers here!

Are you looking for a point-n-shoot camera (I assume so with the small camera comment)? I bought a DSLR (I know, new they are more than your $200 limit and size) and I love it.

-At a RallyCross-

-My friend's car (ISO decently set at 400)

I love how you can control all the aspects of the picture and work with nearly any elements to get the shot you want.

You might be able to find a used one for pretty cheap - it would be worth it! But then again, these aren't ones you can just put in your pocket either...

EDIT: This is a Canon Rebel XTi (10.1 MP)

thanks! that one looks nice. i was thinking point and shoot type, but if i need one that's a little manual to get a good shot, i might go with one of those if i can find one for a good price.

fuji is crap. sorry to any owners (mat) but if you want just a normal day to day camera go with a cannon if you don't mind spending a little if your really on budget get an olympus. otherwise don't wast your time and money.

Two camera threads!

I dunno much about cameras under ~$800... Tho I am impressed w/ the cheap point & shoot specs these days. Intraweb reviews will help.
