Hi Rev- Power Failure
Posting this in several forums. ANY RESPONSE APPRECIATED. Now my 2004 ZTR is in the shop for ,(what I am recording as Strike Two), 3 strikes and the Lemon Law takes effect, right? My car has a total power failure when I step on it or the tach goes above 5000. The Dealer replaced the whole computer the first time. The very next day, boom, same thing again. Now they have been working on it just one day so far, but that's been a solid day ,8AM 'til 6PM(non stop). Service writer at last phone conversation said the machanic was on the phone with Nissan. Everyone is scratching their heads? I've read many similar problems but they all seem to revolve around the K&N filter. Mine is stock, so no such luck as a simple sensor replacement. My fingers are crossed that tomarrow they'll find a solution. I sure don't want to use the lemon law rule on my baby. I've put blood sweat, and tears into the upkeep and maintenance. Don't want to start all over. Anyone else out there with similar problems? Would love to knock heads, "FLZ", Dave drbtc@adelphia.net

sorry, i don't have an answer, but just a question. What do you mean by total power failure? Does the car shut down completely? Or does the fuel cut out and then kick back on when the RPMs drop? Or does it just slow down over 5K?

It's the crank position sensor
FLZ- I had the same problem a few months ago. First the car wouldn't rev to redline and it felt like the rev limiter kicked in early. Then the rev threshhold starting lowering 5.5k, 4.5k, and finally I couldn't rev my car past 3k AT ALL. Whenever I hit one of these threshold the car would go into safemode, reducing power and turning on the VCD, Brake and TC lights. Since I've had the crank position sensor replaced about 2 months ago my car has been fine until recently. My car now feels like it's in safemode until it is fully warmed up and then it's fine. I think it's another faulty CPS and I'll be taking it back to the delaer for another diagnostic. I'm pretty sure that's what your problem is. Hope this helps.

This could relate to the crank position sensor non shielded wiring from the ECU. APS had done some testing and resolved the factory wiring instability issue in their new wiring harness for their turbo package. CJ Motorports is making new crank position sensor wire and cam sensor wires to eliminate this issue also. You may see if they can replace the harness under warranty, although it will still be with factory wiring it may solve the problem.
