Auto or Stick?

It is not a stock car though. It has aftermarket parts from a non-ford company. Roush isn't an in house tuner like NISMO or Subaru Technica international. Roush is more like Dinan not an inhouse tuner. Also the current Mustang is built on a severly outdated platform. Also the suspension set up that is offered on the Mustang limits overall handling in the end it can only be taken so far. The Z06 on the other hand is the best of the best hands down in my opinion because of the independent suspension setup If I had to have an American sports car it would be a Z06 6 speed manual tranny without a second thought.

I dont think so. I have sat back and listened to all of you and I agree with you all. But when I see a "ragtop" I do think roadsteer and not sports car. In any commercial that is featuring a convertible you hear roadsteer not sports car. When I think sports car I always think hardtop and manual. Maybe the definition of a "sports car" is changing. Would anybody consider a EvoIII a sports car? Probably not. Why, because it has four doors and most of them are auto. But then you take an RX-8 and you think sports car. Why, because it is a hardtop, two door manual beast. The point is, that there is a reason that sports cars are supposed to be manual. IF it was just an auto then there would be no sport or fun in driving. Anyone can step on the gas. Auto's are like hunting with an automatic rifle. It takes practice to shift and down shift. Thats why manuals are considered sports cars. In any sport you practice to get better. Who gets better by just stepping on the gas?

to sport or not
someone mentioned earlier an automatic ferrari convertible. if that isn't a sports car, then i need to have my head examined.
i don't care for autotragics, but i do not use that as a criteria for sport or not, given the above example. personally, i'd never own an automatic sports car. i prefer the art of "driving surgery."
well how about an integra? or crx? i don't like honda, per se, but those are FWD cars. and they come auto or manual. and they are designed as sports cars. so does a sports car need to be RWD and manual only? there are many grey areas here. some purists argue that a sports car is only manual and only RWD. but i think that is horsesh!t.

Integras, CRXs, and all those types of cars are sport sedans NOT SPORTS CARS (they are even marketed as sport sedans). They are FWD (yes sports cars are RWD) They are made to carry family and offer performance driving to a degree. Sports cars are made for pure performance driving.
The RX-8 is a 2 door + alittle its not exactly a 4 door it is a 2 dooor with half doors (its just different and kind of stylish, but they remind me of those trucks that have the same set up).

a sedan is a 4 door. a coupe is a 2 door as 91 stated. Most integras and CRX's (actually all CRXs) are coupes. And they are labeled sport compacts not sport sedans. I don't know if you can call those a sports car...but that IS a matter of opinion. And here's some examples of cars that are still labeled sports cars in articles even though they have automatic gearboxes:

Hmmm...
In my experience (new guy BTW restoring a 79 280zx 2+2), It all depends on the car. I find that for all out performance, the main characteristic if which is better comes to engine and company. In smaller displacement and inline engines, I find that the manual transmissions seem to peform and feel better. But I find that in the beefier Big three domestics, their performance Automatics which they have been building for years actually have a real good feel for them. I love the Automatic in my Iroc personally, over the manual.

I own an auto, but that's because I mainly dirve in traffic. I have driven the Z with a stick and it is quicker. I believe that going with a stick or auto is a personal choice. If if didn't live in a crowded area, I would have gone with a stick.
