Warning light - exhaust?
My brother has a 300ZX (non turbo) Japanese import. There's a warning light appearing with what looks like steam above an exhaust. Since the manual is in Japanese... it's all Japanese to me! Could this be an overheating catalytic converter?
He's using unleaded fuel - should he be using premium unleaded (higher octane)?

I don't know about the Z32 having this, but I had a Z31 that had a low coolant level warning. Check the coolant. I'm not sure if the Japanese had different warnings signals. I've never seen that one on mine, but I haven't seen the coolant warning either. It would be a cheap science experiment to try running premium unleaded. Does the car ping? Have you noticed poor mileage? If you stand behind the car with it running in a semi-enclosed area, do your eyes begin to burn? If you answered yes to any of these, you could have an air/fuel ratio problem. This could cause the exhaust temp to increase, if that is what the warning light is. Check the coolant and try better gas, then see what happens.
