Spark plugs.

This thread is in honor of Rizz, if you don't understand, read through the past few threads throughout all the forums. Anyway, spark plugs. How many have changed them so far? You're supposed to do them every 60K mi....5K mi is ok too...but I would guess overkill (*cough*Zwrecker*cough*). It's a pain in the butt the first time to get to all the coil packs and get them out. That balance bar is IN THE WAY! Make sure you have a long enough extensian as well, and an elbow on the socket is helpful as well so you can get the correct angle on it. Number 6 is the hardest one to get to by far. I found it easier on some cylinders to tkae the coil pack out as far as I could before taking off the plug wire connectors. Also, for those who haven't done it (basically who this is for) make sure to replace the old plug with the new one immediately as you don't want debris falling into the cylinders. Alright...post away!

i know i know... i change them every other oil change, just so i know i get a good spark every time. what can i say i love my Z :) maybe a little too much....last spark plug change was before i lost my lisence so....roughly 5 months and 2 weeks, and i put the expensive spark plugs in so i am not gonna be changing them for at least 15k...so there you happy :)

domsgarage 01-28-2004 08:17 AM

This would have helped like a 2 months ago when I first acquired my new 300. But alas, i got throu it, but good tech thing pal. I took the balance bar off. And I had a friend do the cils while i did the plugs so it took like 20 minutes.

So, in your honest opinions, what are the best sparl plugs for the 'Z'?

emo236 01-28-2004 02:13 PM

NGK 6bs or 7bs depending on how much you're modded.

NISMO LMR 01-28-2004 02:46 PM

replacing spark plugs is no big deal... Now tearing the upper half of your engine apart, now THATS a headache, I KNOW! Haha, but are stock good, because I was considering HKS? Worth the extra moola? Peace foo's :p

91zxtt 01-28-2004 03:11 PM

What about Bosch Platinum?

NISMO LMR 01-28-2004 03:39 PM

But if I get HKS ones, I can put an HKS decal on the side of my car! Thats an easy 10-15hp more for each decal right???? haha:D . Which are better though??? Peace foo's :p

emo236 01-28-2004 04:01 PM

I've always been advised to use NGK. This is from numerous Z specializing mechanics(well, 3) and numerous buddies and knowledgeable Z owners. I don't know baout the HKS ones, but I've heard Bosch's are crap...don't know if that's true...that's what was in my car when I pulled them out.

91zxtt 01-28-2004 05:43 PM

You mean you don't have another comparison article for us? This is now becoming an opinion poll.

emo236 01-28-2004 05:51 PM

Alright alright...lemme look...

emo236 01-28-2004 06:00 PM

This doesn't include bosch, but shows some faults with my beloved NGKs:

Heres a comparison between Bosch and NGK...you win 91zxtt:

91zxtt 01-28-2004 07:07 PM

I always thought that Bosch made a good product. I didn't say anything earlier because I didn't want to sound like an ass. Are there any problems with Bosch O2 sensors, or does my previous theory still hold true.

emo236 01-28-2004 09:16 PM

What am I, your research slave...you go research on this and report back to us on this...if you please. If not, I'll probably be a sucker and do it for you in a few days.

91zxtt 01-28-2004 10:17 PM

I'm patient. I can wait.

Z_WRECKER 01-29-2004 01:39 AM

hahahaha......you guys crack me up... I AM SO TIRED....I NEED SLEEP

emo236 01-29-2004 10:46 AM

Well here's everything you need to know about O2 sensors...it's a start.

emo236 01-30-2004 05:42 PM

This is for Rizz.
They say you should go at least one step colder than stock if you're stage three or above, are the standard bosch platinum a step colder or do they come a step colder?

Z_WRECKER 01-30-2004 08:02 PM

i dunno man... and i dunno how do you check something like that....like temp resistance or something?

91zxtt 01-30-2004 09:16 PM

Hmmmm. No clue.

emo236 01-31-2004 04:24 AM

For instance, the NGKs come in 5B's, 6B's and 7B's. 7s are the coldest and 5s are stock. Here, look at this link.

NISMO LMR 01-31-2004 08:45 AM

My boss offered me all 6 NGK spark plugs for 50$... Good deal? He said theyre the best they make, he's used them in all of his Skyline projects. Peace foo's :p

Z_WRECKER 01-31-2004 09:01 AM

thats a good deal, bc NGK are pretty expensive and thanx for the number info. i always wondered what it was

emo236 01-31-2004 01:42 PM

I got them for $45 b/c I have a hook up at the dealer, but $50 not bad either.

NISMO LMR 01-31-2004 01:45 PM

Well I checked, they retial for 16.95 a peice at any store basically. So 50$ all the way around aint too bad, peace foo's :p
