Smoke

Well I ordered/received/installed the complete exhaust from specialty z. The good men at Z Whizz in SD said that it would smoke a little cause of the new system. It is smoking quite a bit though, any thoughts. They mentioned without the pre-cats that there might not be enough back pressure on the turbos and they might leak some oil, does that sound right? I check my stick and the level seemed ok. Also, tonight while I was driving the car sort of cut out on me. Think having the stock ECU would have anything to do with that?

Hmmmm. You got me. I didn't have a problem with anything smoking when I installed mine. They didn't mention anything about it smoking without the precats. How far have you driven it since you installed that stuff? Did you plug back in the O2 sensors? Maybe you just need to take it for a long drive to burn off whatever is smoking. I don't think it's the ECU.

Cats

Well I talked to my Z mechanic and he told me that I should re install the factory mid pipes. I thought it was sort of strange but I did and the smoke went away. Something about the turbos not having enough back pressure and leaking oil into the exhaust. I thought it sounded fishy but it work so maybe the old factory turbos need that. Keeping the straight pipes though for when I upgrade the turbos.

Hey man. Listen to whatever those guys at Z whizz tell you. They know what they're talking about and they are not there to rip you off like a lot of other places. I always bring my Z to them, unless it's small stuff like tires or something.
