Short-ram intake?

k, im new. i just bought a 95 300Zx. i dont know crap about it. anyways, on to the important part. i was looking into getting a Greddy short ram intake, but i've been seeing all these posts about JWT pop chargers(or w/e their called). should i stick with the short ram, or get the JWT??

and to me it looks like there's two intakes...from the top that is. does that mean i have to buy 2 kits? or to they somehow meet up at the front. thanx.

its a matter of preference and price....
jwt has shown higher gains than other intakes, but thats really only seen on TTs, your n/a might find half a hp more than another intake.

you either buy just the filter kit, or you can buy an intake kit, including the filter kit and two polished, chromed, etc. intake pipes.

From what I gather that this guy is talking about.... "short-ram intake"..... he'd also have to wire in another MAF sensor. That's the only way to shorten up the intake on these cars. Maybe feasible, but not beneficial.

looks to me that everyone is confused.
Seems to me it's all in the terminology.
Short ram intake is basically a term used for an intake kit that is a short pipe with a filter on the end that is used in honda/mitsubishi/other import applications. Short Ram intake is not a term that should be applied to Z32's because there's no possible way to use such a system with our cars.
What is available are basically higher flowing stock box replacement filters, cone filters(that replace the entire stock intake box), and a combination of cone filter with polished intake pipes for the NA. That's it. No short ram, no cold air intakes, i don't care what they "name" their system, it's going to be one of those basic types.
The only time a second cone filter or second MAF to accompany it should be considered is if the car is making over 500hp. There's no way to "Shorten" the intake system on the Z32.

Have to agree with the post above

I recently had to replace my stock air box due to a rather large rock being thrown up into it on the freeway. After investigating the price of a stock air box I turned to a after-market solution. I went with a Injen "Cold Air Intake" again as it was mentioned above this really does nothing to shorten the intake and there is not refrigeration system with it so I don't think the Air is really that "Cold".. haha jk.. I really was not expecting a noticable difference of any kind, more of a looks and a cheap alternative to replacing the stock system. However I have to say I noticed a difference.. it's not much maybe just a few ponies, but hey it looks great and it only takes about an hour to put in. Check it out would recommend it to anyone who had to replace there stock air box or is looking to spice up the looks of their engine bay.

I thought a "cold air intake" meant that it takes air from outside instead of from the engine bay, mabye im just a noob though

A cold air intake is a system to bring down the temperature of the air going into a car for the purpose of increasing the power of the internal-combustion engine. A secondary goal is to increase the appeal of a car by changing the apperarance of a car's engine bay and creating an attractive intake noise. These aftermarket parts come in many different colors and many different sizes, and are an inexpensive way to increase performance.

I prefer the "glue on your hood" supercharger over an actual charger... cheaper & lighter!
