No dash lights after new radio install
So I just installed a new kenwood head unit and I'm facing some electrical issues. Keep in mind that there is an orange wire (illumination) on the harness that isn't connected to the head unit as it doesn't have a designated illumination wire. After installing the radio, when I turn the headlights on, the dash lights don't come on and the clock turns off but the radio works fine. Any ideas? I also tried to disconnect the radio and see if that fixes the issue but it didn't. Before installing the radio, everything worked as it should. Nothing is wired to the clock and everything else is stock. I did put a voltmeter onto the harness going into the clock. There is a constant 12v on every wire. Is that what it should be? I've tried to decipher the wiring diagram on the service manual but I wasn't able to.
Also, when first installing the radio, i connected the orange wire to the constant 12v. This orange wire connect to the R/L wire on the factory harness. I read that that is the dimmer wire which works on varying ground. So I think I might have blown a fuse or relay for that matter. But i checked all the fuses and even disassembled the headlight switch to make sure the solders on it are fine and they were good. So, its still an issue. Help

Gotten anywhere with this
I know this is an old post, but I'm going through the same, or least similar issue. Thought we might be able to help each other by describing what we tried that has and hasn't worked.
