Clock,Volts,Dome,Map dead after radio install

Had an aftermarket stereo installed on my '82. Now my clock, volts, dome light, and map light are dead. Power antenna will not work. I would like to use the old antenna switch, but need to know how to wire it so it works like it did with the factory setup.

Welcome to ZDriver.

You can DL your complete Factory Service Manual (FSM) at XenonS130 - S130 Reference along with other cool docs. I bet the FSM has all the schematics you will need to check out your circuits and figure out what's wrong. Sounds like someone blew a fuse or broke into an original circuit or two while installing your new sounds.

See if you can locate the break. It will help if some of your original harness connectors are left back there after your installation. Previous owners have had 32 years to 'modify' them. Looks like you get to make it right. You can get a retracting aerial to work with the power-on switch at the head unit.

Let us know what you find!

serves you right to let the meatheads at CAr Toys mess with your Z. the antenna switch originally was there so you could put the antenna at half mast for reasons unknown. Guess maybe you could cut down interference by shortening the antenna but todays units are much more sensitive and that is a fairly useless feature. Wiring is on the wiring diagram if you can find it. the antenna will go up and down just with input from unit. I'd go back to the place that butchered it and have a long talk with someone in charge. 12 ga pump with 18 inch barrel is a powerful negotiating tool.

I'll be taking it back to the installer in a few days. If anybody who has their factory power antenna working(up/dn) with an aftermarket could share the setup it would save alot of time.

Blown 10a fuse fixed most of it. Just need to get antenna working and reroute the bluetooth to work with the rear speakers.

Wait... reroute the Bluetooth? Please tell me the installer didn't tell you they needed to reroute the Bluetooth. If they did, I hope they aren't charging you for that.

Bluetooth is a network protocol with short range and limited bandwidth. It's used primarily as a way to connect your phone to the stereo. I suppose you could have Bluetooth speakers in the car, which is pretty cool but a little unusual.

Aftermarket power antennas come with instructions you can't read (Chinese with bad drawings and big arrows) or none at all. Bought one, didn't fit (they lied) returned it, got a second one that fit but came in a big shiny 4-color box - with no instructions.

Good thing was that the original wiring was still there, powering the old antenna. So you can use that wiring and make sure it's still hooked up right at the head unit. All the power antenna requires is a head unit power-on signal to raise it and a head unit power-off signal to retract. Sounds like a 3-wire hookup to me, including ground - but I forget now. If your original Z had a power antenna, it is in your FSM electrical diags so that's good.

It may take some time to figure out which wire/connection on your new antenna receives which wire from the head unit/harness, but at least you can do that first and see it working right before you install the antenna on the car.

If I'm not mistaken, when you recieve a phone call, the volume drops and the phone runs through the front speakers (that we disconnected). It' a Pioneer. I guess that's the way they're all set up.
