My starter is falling off again...

Hi Guys,

Well, a while back I posted a thread about my starter falling off. I learned that other folks have had the prob, from this forum, so thanks and props to the ZDriver crew!

Well, I think it's gonna do it again. Last time, the starter made that grinding noise 3 or 4 times before it fell out. So this time, I only heard it once and since I am in finals right now and can't get to it, I am letting it sit for a few weeks so hopefully this time I can fix it before it falls out and the housing casting breaks again. My question is: Has this happened to anyone reading this? And if so, was it a re-occuring problem? I think that the bolt hole may be stripped. I checked it last time and used Loc-Tite, but Here I am again.

What do you guys think I should do? Nissan mechanic? I don't have a place to work on it and I don't trust mechanics so...

there is only two 14 mm blots holding it on..

you'll need a wrench for the top and a socket/medum extenction and a rachet for the other, just make sure you take off the negative battery terminal off first.

I swaped out my starter in less than fiveteen minuets from under the hood.

If it's stripped then buy a tap and die so that you can go up to the next bolt size. Use a lock washer or shake-proof bolts.

Tekanitrus - I'm sure you meant to say 15 minutes from the under the car instead of under the hood.

damn, took me like a good 45 minutes, damn heat shields, and the f'd up angle are responsible for that. It isn't hard to get to or fix, just do what 91zx already suggested, or maybe you just need to tighten the bolts back down.

I just changed mine...simple change, but for sure, from under the car. 2 14mm bolts, unplug the lead, thats it.
