High Oil temp n idle at start

Ok I no search search search. But I hav and came up with nothin for my oil temp issue during idle. I dont no if it only does this during a cold start since i havent had time to drive it but i assume so. When I start the car it idles at 1,500rpm's and the oil temp goes up to jus a pintch over half. And I mean right away. If I rev it a lil bit and then let off the pedal the idle will drop down to about 1,000 or jus a bit under but then it will go back up to 1,500rpm. So any ideas boys. my exhuast fumes smell a bit rich to me also. And the other day I think I got a slight back fire as well. Like a low pop pop

that would be your water temp sensor. its in front middle of the engine on the water pipe.

theres plenty of threads about high idle that you can read thru

there is no oil temp gauge. there is one for water temp and one for oil pressure. oil pressure should come up on a cold start, as the oil is more viscous when it is cold. and you should idle a bit high when the car is warming up.

which gauge are you talking about? the one to the far left, or the one under the tach?

im guessing its the water temp, since the oil pressure gauge has psi written on it

One must be careful to not jump to conclusions here....with this guy you never can tell....he may be confusing it with the gas gauge.

Ok I feel really dumb Yes it was the oil preasure that I was referring to. But entropy31 made it clear that its just normal as the car warms up on a cold start. Its my first car and all and sometimes when I notice things that I didnt before I get really freaked out and think that theres a problem. And since its a Z I'd rather nothin ever happen to ma baby.
