hesitation & vibration between 3500-4500 rpm

I just bought a 91 N/A Auto tha thas a hesitation/vibration under acceleration between 3500-4500 rpm. if you 'drive it like you stole it' it will shift fine and you barely notice it, but if you try to drive like a good boy, it doesn't like to shift in this range either. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Welcome, Hollywood! Have you checked the ECU codes? That would be the place to start in trying to find the problem, since there's so many things that can cause hesitation.

First run ecu codes. Is the speedo working correctly? That, the coolant temp sensor and the TPS all provide inputs to the A/T ecu regarding shift points.

Then run the A/T diagnostics ---->>>>> HERE

Thanks... hopefully i can get some time to look at it this weekend. Also, thanks for the welcome everyone, and snwbrderphat540, I bought the thing for a song, so I was willing to take a chance or two with a few things being wrong.
