gearbox issues

hello all

I'm posting this for assistance with adapting a manual gearbox onto a z32 tt engine. I already have both and as far as I can see the blocks of the Z31 and z31 appear to be very similar as all the bolt holes for the z31 manual box align perfectly with the z32 block.

I feel certain that if I put my flywheel and clutch assembly onto the z32 engine which did have an auto box it would work fine. My modification is not without problems though. the turbo and oil filter housing on the z32 engine leave no room for the starter motor. Can anyone advise as to whether or not a different oil filter housing is used on the manual box of a z32 as I have no pictures to reference what a z32 manual box looks like when on.

I appreciate this may be unusual but if I can make it work it just might save me a bit of cash on having to buy the manual z32 box.

any help is much appreciated

kind regards paul ps@ev88.wanadoo.co.uk

The Z32 trans is better, just get one.

I hate half-assed work on the Z32 - it was a $40,000 sports car and deserves better.

2nd

for your z to work correctly, get the z32 tranny. the trans gear ratios are probably different between the two trannys. the z31 tranny is probably not as strong.

what about your driveshaft? shifter linkage? speed sensors ...etc. im sure those may/are be different.

does the z31 tranny have syncros?

wow guy's

1/2 assed efforts is a bit strong.

My car is not the Z31 or the Z32 but a kit car that will make use of the z32 power train as I'm a fan of it. A friend of mine has passed on a z31 turbo engine with manual box free of charge and I'm simply understanding what differences are to see if they can be used.

why I have to justify is a bit disappointing.

If you can help thats great !

you never stated that when your talking about a VG30DETT and dont state thats its in some sort of kit car, we wont be able to assume that it is and just dont want you half assing your beuatiful Z. as for the kit car, the answers will stay the same, they could be teh same or similare but theres only on way to tell if the starter location and flywheel will agree and if teh tranny will even bolt to it, you gotta try, and also that the Z31 trans is probably a damn good amount weaker than the Z32 trans and might not be able to hold up to incredibly on a TT motor especially if you add more power goodies

2nd on the points presented after mine. Z31 trans is going to be weaker.

By the way, I didn't realize that you had asked about differences between 5-speed and auto oil filter housings. But there are no differences - 5-speed and auto are the same in this sense, so that isn't a solution to your problem.

having found a site that explains the differences between the many gearbox options found on the z31turbo. the borg warner example I have been given appears to be the weakest of the bunch so It looks like the modification stops there.

I shall have to buy a manual z32 box to fit the z32 engine. A bit of a shame as I had hoped it could have been put to use.
