auto gearbox problems in the wet
hello everyone
just bought 1990 z32 runs lovely until it rains, then it does'nt want to change gear and idles at 2000 rpm's also high beam headlights come on and stay on until everything drys out. once dry everythings back to normal, would be very grateful for any ideas you may have. many thanks Mark

I hate electrical problems. Here's some initial areas to look.
1) The problem is somewhere that gets wet. duh, I know. meaning it's prolly in the engine bay and not under the dash.
2) Your highbeam headlight circuit. There's not too many of those wires. They're making contact with another hot wire somewhere.
3) High idle might just be a byproduct of a large current draw somewhere
4) Not changing gears could be the speed sensor circuit Does your speedo work when it's wet? Or the a/t ecu. Again, maybe due to a high current draw elsewhere, or the high beam wire short is in an area of the a/t ecu / speed sensor circuit wiring.
One of the bummers is that it might not act up for a while. One thing to try the next time it acts up, is to pull the headlamp fuses from the fuse box on the fender well and then see if everything else works o.k. If so, then you've narrowed things down to which circuit the short is in.
Good luck
