any car would get hydolocked if it sucked up a lot of water, no matter stock or cone.

i have drivin my car many times in the rain a through puddles and nothing.

dont be paranoid unless you think your car is a submarine.

On my old car my filter sat right next to my front wheel on the inside, so it was really low. I drove through puddles and everything. The only way you can get hydrolock is if you are stoped in a puddle that totaly covers your filter up to the begining of the intake pipe so no air can get in, basically creating a vacume and then put down some heavy throttle. This question has been discussed on many forums for many different cars and you will hear varying responses but I have maybe head of one person who actually got hydrolock and it probably was contributed to something else completely but it just happened to be raining. Dont worry about it you have to be a submarine

Shield

I installed a shield that covers to bottom half of my cold air intake filter on the bottom on my '90 Z32 2+2 just in case. I've been running a cold air intake on my '93 Z32 N/A coupe without the shield. I did use a tie wrap and pulled the stock flexible plastic air deflector to shield the bottom of my cone filter on it. Bot of these cars are daily drivers, and I haven't had any problem. You can get a shield for you cone filter (or make one) pretty inexpensively and have 'peace of mind'.

I did the exact same thing with mine with two zip ties, pulling the plastic up against the end of the filter. The shape of it appears to help funnel more of the air that comes thru the smaller upper fascia opening directly to the filter.
