Broken shift lock
Broken shift lock
Just bought my first Z - a '91 N/A 2+2 A/T (I know, more like a ba$tardized version of a Z, but it was the only one I could afford at this point).
Anyway, previous owner said the key wouldn't turn in the ignition, so he took it to a local shop who said the shift lock was broken, so they "disabled" it, in his words. Now you have to push the shift lock button just to get out of Park, regardless of whether it's on a hill. Can someone help a noob out??

well, I have a 90 2+2 a/t and it is far from a bastardized sports car in any way spanking ricers with way more money put into them... and I dont know about anyone else but to get my car out of park I have to press the brake and the shift lock button... and I prefere it that way, that way no one can bump it into neutral.
And more then likely the reason the key woulndt turn it on was because the ignition system thought the shifter was not yet fully into park...

OK, OK - no offense intended to fellow 2+2 A/T owners. Some purists have been known to say that a true sports car only has 2 seats and a manual tranny. Was just attempting to head off any comments from those people.
So, does anyone know if this is the standard for the A/T??
