60K experience

Anybody in either the Monterey bay area (San Jose), bay area (San Fransisco) or in the socal area that has done a 60K before? I need to do mine coming up here pretty soon and I want to try to do it myself, but it'd be cool if I had some ehlp from someone woh's done it before. Whoever is willing would be compensated for their time.

Z_WRECKER 01-18-2004 07:30 PM

your z has under 60k....is it a stock engine.... mine is at 80k now :)

emo236 01-18-2004 07:34 PM

No it's almost time for the 2nd 60K. Feel me? I'm at about 104K right now. I WISH it had under 60K!

Here's how to do it.

http://store.yahoo.com/sgpracing-sto...03060ksek.html

Here's where to get the parts for it.
Since you gotta remove the pulley and radiator, this would be the perfect time to replace both. Also, the lower radiator hose/pipe kit would be perfect here. The coolant temp. sensor and the temp. gauge sensor might be candidates for replacement at this point as well.

emo236 01-19-2004 01:00 AM

Rizz, Are you saying that you're gonna drive to California for little 'ol me?! WOW, Rizz, what a nice guy you are. you're gonna come to CA and help me and teach me how to do the 60K..lower half! Everyone..isn't Rizz the nicest. I'm gonna go email EVERYONE on 3zc, tt.net, and everyone on this forum and tell 'em what you're doing for me and what a NICE guy you are.

Riz Z Speed 01-19-2004 01:07 AM

Sure, I'll be there.
All you gotta do is send me the plane tickets. Reserve and pay for a hotel (5 star please). Buy breakfast, lunch and dinner. Be sure you have all the tools you'll need. Then I'll be more than happy to help you. ;)

emo236 01-19-2004 01:08 AM

Oh I already told everyone that you're "Even paying for your own ticket!"

emo236 01-19-2004 01:10 AM

Alright, I guess I can put you up, and buy you breakfast, lunch and dinner...I have a nice tent that can go in the backyard, or ILL EVEN ALLOW YOU TO SLEEP IN MY CAR IN THE GARAGE!!! hows that for 5 star!!?? so when's a good time for you to do this..I just need it done sometime soon...actually, if you wanna come do it at the fraternity house...we'll hafta do it in the driveway which might be weird, but you can stay in the active room...comfy couches!!:D

Riz Z Speed 01-19-2004 01:15 AM

First class on American Airlines and a room at the Holiday Inn or nothing!!!!!!

91zxtt 01-19-2004 06:01 PM

Holiday Inn? Don't they have anything nicer than that in Chicago? Since he's in the Monterey area, have him hook you up at somewhere nice, like the Double Tree.

Riz Z Speed 01-19-2004 09:06 PM

Of course they do.
I was just being nice and said the Holiday Inn for where he lives. Why would I want a hotel room here where I live? He wants me to go over to Cali where he's at to help him out. Hell, I'll settle for a Motel 6! As long as it's not a couch, I'm not that picky.

Z_WRECKER 01-19-2004 09:10 PM

come on Rizz...you are a moderator....that means you take care of us, the ppl who come to the forum....i thought we had this discussion already, and i didn't get my email checking up if i have any stuff for you to do....my z needs to be washed badly, so whenever you get a chance rizz

Riz Z Speed 01-19-2004 09:19 PM

not this crap again....

91zxtt 01-19-2004 10:24 PM

I didn't mean a Holiday Inn in Chicago. I meant that if a Holiday Inn was the nicest place in Chicago, then you may have thaught that was the best they had to offer in Monterey. Sarcasm mis-interpreted. My-bad.

emo236 01-19-2004 11:00 PM

I was jk, I don't expect you to come here, Rizz. You didn't think i was being serous did you. If so thanks for being willing to come! thats pretty nice of you! I was thinkin someone in CA would answer to this post...maybe..it was worth a try. I don't feel comfortable changing my timing belt by myself, so i was hoping someone who's done it before or has enough experince with stuff like that, so that they might be willing to come help me. then I'd learn and could do it myself next time or help someone else do it. if not, i'm gonna do the top half (already done quite a bit of it) and then take it to someone to do the bottom.

Riz Z Speed 01-19-2004 11:05 PM

Awwwww man :( I was up to a trip too!
I was even looking forward to getting my hands dirty.:D
Besides, I'd never been out to Cali and was kinda looking forward to it. I figure that the flight and hotel would've been cheaper than taking your car to the dealer as well. ;) Like you'd take your car to the dealer anyway. :p

emo236 01-19-2004 11:17 PM

we'll see Rizz, I'll keep it open as an option. Have you ever done it before?

Riz Z Speed 01-19-2004 11:21 PM

nope, but it can't be that hard.:D

emo236 01-19-2004 11:33 PM

its not the fact that it might be hard that makes me warry. Its the fact that if I mess something up even a slight bit, there goes my motor.

Riz Z Speed 01-19-2004 11:55 PM

Short of cracking the block itself, It can all be fixed. ;)

emo236 01-20-2004 06:49 AM

Oh well, in that caase...I'll just get my little brother to help me...he's 7.

Z_WRECKER 01-20-2004 09:37 AM

hahaha....sorry rizz the job is taken by a more dependable person...emo's 7 year old brother

NISMO LMR 01-20-2004 04:50 PM

Bro me and you are at the same point methinks, except half of my friends are mechanics, HAHAHAHAHA :D :p . So im learning quite a bit here, but the timing belt... Not touching, calling someone to mess with that thing. Peace foo's :p

NISMO LMR 01-20-2004 04:53 PM

Dude you named your dog Z??? Haha, thats die hard right there dude. I could have named my hedgehog Z, hes got some dark hair on his forehead that forms a Z, haha. But Hogie will work. Peace foo's :p

emo236 01-20-2004 05:00 PM

Are you gonna call someone to help you on it or just to do it. Personally, I want to learn how to do it since I plan on keeping my Z for a LONG time and I plan on doing the next one and at least the one after..then on my new motor after that, so I want to learn. Also, it'd be cool b/c I could help other people do it.

91zxtt 01-20-2004 05:23 PM

Emo- You need to find someone who knows what is going with the engine. Changing the timing is not only a labor intensive job, but it requires some solid mechanical knowledge. If you don't know of anyone that possesses that, then save yourself the headache and take it to someone. I unfortunately don't know anyone in your area who is competent enough to handle this task. Good luck.. May the force be with you.

emo236 01-20-2004 06:59 PM

Well, I know shops that could do it...Greg Dupree would be a great person to do it and I have a hook up with him through a member in my club (no one who was at the last meeting has done it). however, I really would like to learn how to do it if possible. I might just end up taking it to someone, but I'd rather not. At the same time, I don't feel comfortable doing it myself b/c I don't wanna mess it up!! I got an email from a cool guy that may be an option. I figured that there might be someone here that may be able to help and if they can, that'd be great.

NISMO LMR 01-20-2004 07:25 PM

Why not pay someone to do it... And observe, take notes if you please, I have a whole note book full of notes on procedures for the Z... Just learn that way, the safe way. Peace foo's :p

emo236 01-20-2004 09:04 PM

Once again...that's my second option...but it would be more beneficial to get my hands dirty.

91zxtt 01-26-2004 11:53 AM

I just completed the job. my dad and I did it. It was actually quite educational. It's not exactly hard, just time consuming. I still don't recommend doing it on your own. You need someone that understands exactly what is going on with the engine internally. If you don't, then you could screw up a lot of stuff. It took us the whole weekend, but we didn't start until after noon each day. We took our time taking it apart, but it went back together quite easily. It's just nerve racking to turn the key for the 1st time. We did the job right though. New water pump, thermostat, tensioner, idler pulleys, cam seals, main seal, VTC springs and o-rings. We also installed the underdrive pulley set. The larger radiator is really shoe-horned in there, but looke pretty cool. All in all, a success.

emo236 01-26-2004 04:22 PM

I just went and talked to a friend that's a mechanic and was the lead mechanic at zwhizz previously (he's done SOOO many 60K it's not even funny). WEll after talking to him, I think me and a friend who just did the timing belt and all that stuff on his car might tackle the job this summer. 91, how did you like your UD pulleys? did you feel a difference?

91zxtt 01-26-2004 07:27 PM

It's amazing how much smaller the crank pulley is compared to stock. No wonder it makes a difference. You'll notice a difference. You'll feel it about the same as when you installed the hi-flow intake. It seems to rev a bit quicker. Definitely more power. When drvining up hills, it doesn't slow down in places it use to. Worth the $.

emo236 01-26-2004 07:44 PM

Cool, I'm thinking i'll do it when I do my 60K.

91zxtt 01-26-2004 08:12 PM

If you're going to do it, just get the full set of pulleys. I went with the polished aluminum color. I'm not a big fan of brightening up an engine compartment with red, yellow or blue. Looks tacky. The polished aluminum looks clean.

emo236 01-26-2004 08:15 PM

I was thinking pink.:D

Z_WRECKER 01-26-2004 09:23 PM

mine are pink too emo...great color :D

emo236 01-26-2004 09:35 PM

Yea...they're so pretty! haha...alright any new guy or guest logging on is gonna wonder after reading this. that's enough.

Z_WRECKER 01-26-2004 09:41 PM

like you said i am comfortble with my sexuality....(straight for all you new ppl :)), but after they read trough any forum out here they'll figure out that sarcasm and good humor is all what is about+ helpful info about Z's, which is the best asset to this forum

emo236 01-26-2004 11:20 PM

Yea, I agree.

91zxtt 01-27-2004 11:07 AM

You guys are lucky you don't live in San Francisco. They take this stuff pretty serious out there. Fairies don't like sarcasm.

Z_WRECKER 01-27-2004 11:21 AM

what are they gonna do.... mess up my hair :D just kidding....whatever floats your boat, i am straight, have nothing against gay's, but how can you be gay when you see a hottie walk by....;) , long legs, nice back, cute as hell....the last thing that pops to my mind when i see that is " oh honey where did you get that purse?"... but everybody is different thats whats great about this world...rock hard!!!!...whatever you might be rocking

91zxtt 01-27-2004 11:43 AM

Oh come on, you know you were checkin' out her shoes.

emo236 01-27-2004 12:27 PM

And her skirt was obviously american eagle.

Z_WRECKER 01-27-2004 01:05 PM

i would be more interested in the undies:D

91zxtt 01-27-2004 01:36 PM

or lack there of.

Z_WRECKER 01-27-2004 01:42 PM

you bring up a good point 91...very good point indeed my friend...:)

91zxtt 01-27-2004 02:15 PM

I figured we had more in common than just Z's.

NISMO LMR 01-27-2004 02:35 PM

Haha, my uncles gay guys, but hes the coolest Mother Foooocker I know! He taught me almost everything I know about design on the computer. I dont know if you guys heard of this, but did you hear about how P Diddy (hate his music, but whatever) came to some NYC School and visited. That was my uncles class room! He showed me pics and all, he said hes a nice fellow, even when the camera's were off. Anyways, Its fine to have Uncle Harold and Aunt Bruce as long as they dont affect your view on sexuality, hahah. Peace foo's :p

91zxtt 01-27-2004 02:41 PM

I have a gay uncle as well, and he's cool. He's way more liberal than I am, and I view myself as being a fairly liberal person. His 'friends' are nice, but I really don't want to know much more about that world. I didn't find out until I was 12, but once my parents told me, it all made sense. He was married before and everything. My uncle would never be involved with P Diddy. He's more into Barbara Streisand and Liza Manelli. Ugh.

Z_WRECKER 01-27-2004 03:54 PM

well i know a couple of dudes too, i mean like i said i have nothing against them, they don't bother me, i am cool with them...see everytime you see two gay dudes just think there are 2 more girls for the rest of us :) hahahahaha....heck they can hook you up with some of their straight female friends ;)
