i have just bought a 1991 300zx 2+2 manual yesterday and for some reason i didnt notice the speedometer didnt work until after i bought the car, i have a few questions to ask you guys,

Question 1: does the fuel gauge move down when you turn the car off and then when you turn it on it goes back up? because mine is in the same spot when i turn the car on and off,

Question 2: does the tempature gauge take alittle bit of time to move because i noticed it has not moved when i turned the car and it is just pointing down- i dont have a license yet or is the car registered so i cant drive it to see(but i did test drive it without a liscence lol)

Question 3: my speedometer does not work how do i get it to work again?

For starters, you have a copy of your Factory Service Manual (FSM) - or you can download it from http://www.xenonz32.com/reference.html There are other good docs there, too. Take some time to get familiar with the FSM and check out the inspection & troubleshooting sections for the stuff you are working on. They are step-by-step, easy to follow.

If your gauges aren't working right - or at all - first thing to check is your fuse box. If your fuses are all good there, move on to step 2. Our Z32 guys here will know what that should be.

ok, does the fuel gauge go down when the car turns off and how long does it take for the temp gauge to go up ?

Fuel gauge stays the same, on or off. The temp gauge slowly works its way up as the temp rises, when you shut the ignition off the needle falls.

Is it just the speedo that doesnt work? does the tach work?

 

ok, thanks for that response the temp. works i rembemer it half way when i test drove,the rpm works and im guessing the fuel works


the ones that dont work is the the miles that are stuck at 92000 and the mph
