Question about Redline Oils

On my Z31, I use Mobil-1 10-30 for motor, Redline MT90 for tranny and Redline 75W90 with friction modifier for the differentials. I believe Mobil-1 and MT90 are fine for the Z32. I also think that the 75W90 will be OK for the Z32 diff - maybe with a bit more friction modifier. Both the MT90 and 75 weight oils meet (and maybe surpass) the Nissan API GL requirements for the Z32. Does anyone here use 75W90 for the diffs? Any issues?

i have Mobil 1 75W90 in mine, no problems. and a friction modifier won't do a damn thing for the Z32, as the LSD is viscous.

Thanks entropy. I didn't realize that the Z32's LSD was that different from the one on my Z31.

I just use whatever (other than serious performance type stuff, oil is oil). 78k on TT 28k on the 350z and 185k on the 91 NA. Source: my cousin who is an chemist for Exxon.

I personally tested 2 different oil types in a 1995 corolla just to see if I could tell the difference.

1st oil I tested was Pennziol 10w30 non synthetic oil.

First off, on cold days the car would slightly knock for a couple seconds on initial startup after sitting overnight. And i recorded the highway mpg which was 33 mpg.

Second iol I tested was Mobil 1 10w30 fully synthetic.

Initial startup after sitting overnight had no knocking noise whatsoever. And the recorded highway mpg was an astounding 39 mpg.

oil is oil?

i use mobil 10-30 synthetic for all my performance cars for motor oil. redline is great stuff and you can mix it with BG synchro shift for the transmission application. its a lil secrete i picked up somewhere. i forget the mixture though. lol. dont remember if it was 50/50 or not. ill have to ask this person i know. and for rear diff, i havent decided on a fav brand yet. so far im enjoying my fully synthic mobil though in my S30's. i tried royal purple in my Z32 and it seemed to have lost ALOT of its locking capabilities (the rear diff that is), just from a gear oil change i never trusted that company again.

Mobil is the shiznit. And you can get it at wal-fart, so it makes it that much more conveinent.

as i said in your thread a while ago, the gear oil has NO effect at all on the locking capabilities of the z32 diff. NONE, ZERO, ZILCH. the locking mechanisim is a closed viscous system. the gear oil NEVER interacts with any part that has to do with the limited slip properties of the diff.

moron.

also, this is the reason that friction modifires or other LSD additives are completely worthless on the z32.
