Need opinions on this car and price

I am currently looking at a 1996 Cobalt Green Pearl TT w/ manual tranny. The Carfax report checked out good with the exception that the first owner was a fleet owner. It has 93,000 miles and all of the maint. records are current. The body is in mint condition and the car drives great. The asking price is $16,000, but the market in my area has most comparable Z's going for around $12,000-$14,000. I really want this car, but I can't see paying that price for one. I have my n/a daily driver, so I am not exactly carless. Do you think me asking to pay $14,000 is too low (I'd really like to get him down to $13,000, but I don't see that happening)? Thanks for any replies.

It may sound a little high, but we've covered this topic many times in the past. First of all, remember that it was a 45K car when it was new. If it's clean and well cared for, it's really worth whatever the market will baer. Trust that someone will easily think that car is worth 16K and snap it up if they have the chance. If you're willing to pay 16K for a greata example of a 96 Z32TT, go for it. If you honestly don't feel that it's worth it... Don't. I'd pay that much for a good one. In fact, I'm in the market for one right now myself and I love that color! Where is the guy at"? If you don't want it, I'd sure be interested in checking it out

Rod.

Not a chance in hell, sorry. I am just trying to figure out my finances. I really want to buy it, but when you have car in one hand and money in the other, and only one of those is coming home with you... It is just driving me nuts right now. I want it, but that is a real chunk of change, you know? I know this topic has been discussed, but this is THE color on the TT that had the lowest production numbers. And the fact that it was the last US Z TT. Like I said, this is driving me crazy as hell.

you said it was a fleet vehicle right. i dont know about that, but then again, i know you'll have your z shop go through it anyways. you should see if the guy will let you take it there and have them give you an opinion on it. and you said the seat had some wear, check this place out. i know you have all that cash sitting around, and a new interior would be sweet. i love the green exerior. just dont spend so much you regret it, and make sure you get that boo boo on the NA fixed too. good luck bro.

No need to bring up old news, man. You know that blemish on my Z kills me. I am going to see what I can do to bring this guy down, but I have the feeling he is going to want to stick to his guns. "I'll give him an offer that he can't refuse"... CASH! Entropy, as you know, that is how I got that great deal on my n/a. Ugh. I hate decisions like this.

some guys are gonna hate me for this, but I can't stand letting a guy get jacked. That price is really high unless it's really modded or AMAZINGLY mint. Where are you from? I have paid $7500 for both of my TT's and it's simply because I waited and actively looked around...everywhere! Both have been some of the cleanest examples I've seen. The current one has a lot of VERY desirable mods.

yeah, you did get a great deal on the NA. i think this TT is too high though, especially with the issues (fleet, seats etc...) i really think you should keep looking. you have some time off right, try expanding your search radius. i know you are excited about getting a TT, but make sure you think it through.

I've expanded my radius to 300 miles. That is about as far as I can go, because I have to drive the cars first. Like I said, I'd be willing to throw $14,000 for the car. It has more than 100,000 less mileage than my n/a, so I could definately get a lot of years out of it, even more considering it won't be the daily driver. The market here is right around $12k-$14k. Another consideration is the fact that these cars have had a steady increase in demand. They are going like hotcakes these days. I have seen 4 disappear before I could even take a look at them. That is just in the last 3 days. As for the fleet thing, I have a spin on that. The car was over $40,000 when it was new. That means that the guy that got this car was probably some kind of executive or at least very high in the business food chain. Those guys aren't the most heavy footed and irresponsible people around. That's how they got to where they are. Plus, fleet vehicles get their maintenance at the dealer, usually. And the maintenance is usually right on schedule. Like I said, this one is making me thing long and hard.

All I can give you is the wholesale price on the car, before some people have ragged me about giving wholesale. That is what I deal with so use your own judgement. The latest price top end is 12,325 plus w/leather add 200 so your looking at 12,525. Average would be 10,475, low end regular is about 8,275. Usually you are looking at 1,500 - 2000 markup on a lot with one of these cars. Actual loan value is around 10,480. Offer the guy 14,000 and work from there. Now how bad do you want the car.
