Lock Me Up!

Alrighty, when i bought my Z the only key it came with was the ignition key. No keys for any of the locks. I tired goin to the dealership and givin them my VIN for a new key to be made but Nissan only does that for 1993 and up. Since my is a 1990 that SUCKS A BIG ONE. Is the key for the door locks the same for the T-tops and the trunk???? Or are there different ones for each thing. Also (this is something i dont want to do AT ALL) can i get a kit that comes with all new locks for the doors, t-tops, and trunk and a key, just one, that will work for all of these, or do i have to buy each lock seperately. Any suggestions or ideas please share because i am in one hell of a bind. Especially cause i cant lock my car or take off the t-tops.

are you able to turn your key when its in the door, trunk, etc?
on my 90 ive found out that the doors have to be closed before i can try to lock them, or they will unlock when you shut them. i also have to wiggle the key a bit to get it in and then a bit back and forth to turn it one way or another

Its a circular black key that says nissan on it and has one hole at the top. It says nissan in like a little black circle imprinted on the key.

The key looks fine and its the only one since i baught the car. I only drove it twice before it basically died, and i've tried so many times but it just doesnt work on the locks. Is this not the original key that 300ZX's came with???

Your best bet would then be a locksmith. They exist for a reason.... :hpydance:

Or, you can probably by new door/hatch locks with keys. A locksmith would be the cheapest tho.

There called "dummy locks" man. Try locking them, then when you shut the door lift up on the handle. It should keep it locked. My best guess is they were made that way so you don't accidently shut your door why being locked with your keys in your car, or worse, in the ignition.

by what you're describing, it sounds to me like previous owner had the valet key duplicated onto a black blank.

Rizz, I just had new keys made. 2 black heads, a red head valet and a titanium cut. The valet and the master black head cuts the same, the difference in the valet and the master is in the key blank itself. The valet has one less slot running down the side of the key. This was my experience. I was concerned with how you cut a valet and the smith showed me the difference. My old black master key was so worn they couldn't cut from it. He cut a cheap blank to try, it wouldn't work. Fit but wouldn't turn at all. He then made a factory spec cut blank to try.It worked perfect (cost $15) then he cut all the rest from the spec blank, one at a time and checked to make sure it worked properly and then cut the Titanium last. We marked the spec key and I put it up in case I ever need it again. The key he described sounds like my 240sx key or old maxima key, not a 300zx key blank.
Does your key look like this, only with a black head?

Hmmm....if that's the case, then it would appear that the key ignition was replaced at some point but none of the other locks were changed to match.

Courtesy has the steel type nismo key, the only place to find them is thru Mike Dang on e-bay. There was a group buy that fell thru at ttzed.com. Nissan wanted 500 at $100 ea to do it. I have no idea where Mike is getting the ones he has. Any dealership can get the same key that Courtesy has.
Keep an eye on this sellers auctions http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AFSEL%3AUS%3A1 he has them listed every so often.

Here is a listing for buy it now at $99.95 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW
