A little help here please..

okay so i put my car in the garage for changing the timing belt handbrake pads , brake pads ,brake disks.. and for check up..
i was talking to the mechanic and he keeps on telling me to sell that car and buy a camaro he even told me turbo systems such and superchargers are much more better.. i don't know why he's so much into american cars :S
Anyway this is not the point ... the point is that everything is okay except my water pump is leaking water and need to be replaced and my, i dont know what it is called in english, something that is related to the water pump it opens when the car becomes warm in order for the water to flow. This "thing" need to be replaced since it doesnt open or close it always stays half open.. so he said i advise you (since lebanon's weather is hot) to remove it in order for maximum water flow at all time..
I'm really not sure about this therefore i wanted to ask you guys..

If he really said that, in that way, he is an IDIOT and needs to be slapped. He might be a mechanic... but he doesn't know anything about proper engineering. Also, after slapping him, he needs to be told he has the intellect of a 10 year old.

FYI... turbochargers are about as close as you can get to "free power" as it uses the wasted exhaust to spin the turbine. The supercharger uses a belt or gear, which robs engine power.

Are you asking HOW to replace the thermostat?

Do not do this. If you have any cold days, you'll over-cool your system and have hardly any power. I highly suggest just replacing this part straight and simple.

nismo is right, about the closest to free horsepower thing. as to whats power adder is best thats debatable. n2o?supercharger?turbo?big displacement? all have downs and ups. its what ever you like personaly in my opion.
just a lil thought for ya nismo, superchargers pull horsepower off the belt but dont they also make boost which makes power? turbos also make boost but when there at a low rpm and not making boost arent they just a big hot turd stuck right in the exhaust path robbing power untill they start making boost anyway. as for your mechanic being stuck on american muscle dont worrie about it i traded my z28 camaro(with engine work) for a 90 300zx na that was in shambles ive only had the 300 for maybe 1 month and it will already pull on the camaro. theres alot of potential for the 300z and its alot more fun to drive.
keep the stat its cheap and not that hard to replace.
when it is cold your heater wont work worth a crap if you leave the stat out

I support the idea of you selling your Z32 for a Camaro.
