Hicas, fuel pump or what?

The facts
rebuilt bottom end, heads from a JDM with less than 60,000 miles. New harness, automatic with HKS line controller. Trannie with shift kit. No check engine light while running. Heard a noise from behind the back seat. the car would rev up and down 500 RPMs. Sometimes it would drop to 0 RPMS. The engine didn't die, then it would rev back up. 2 or three time in a row. So I replaced the fuel pump, regrounded the fuel controller. Ran fine, still get the noise and the weird RPM situation. The Hicas light would come on, losing power steering. Check the belt and oil level, not the problem. Sometimes the car while running will not take fuel. Stopping the car and restarting will solve the problem. Never knowing when this will happen makes it hard to trouble shoot. Kinda thinging that the rear steering rack is going south. The wife describes the noise an grunting sound. To me it sounds like the ABS noise when the brakes are held ever so slighty.

You realize you just said a bunch of gibberish, right?

"Heard a noise from behind the back seat." and then wondering if it's HICAS? If you have back seats and your car was originally sold in the United States, you either have back seats or you have HICAS, you don't have both. Since you say you have a HICAS light, I'm going to assume your car is a 2-seater Twin Turbo.

"Sometimes it would drop to 0 RPMS. The engine didn't die, then it would rev back up." - If the rpms dropped to 0, then the engine died. Either it restarted itself because it was rolling in gear, or the gauge isn't displaying proper rpm.

"Sometimes the car while running will not take fuel." - What? If the motor is running, then it's taking fuel.

It sounds like a fuel pump problem... remove the interior paneling around the pump and run the car to see if you can isolate the sound as the pump itself.

The HICAS light is probably an unrelated issue.
