Ever seen Boyd Coddington's wheels for the Z32?

He designed them for Stillen way back in the day...

Kinda hideous when they have the center caps installed (and ridiculous when you have one of them on the wrong side)...

But then I pick them up for a great price and do this with them...

Getting ready to clean them (they already look better without those center caps)...

After cleaning them...

uh oh... what's that? Painting them??

Damn straight I am...

They just need fresh [gold] paint, no center caps, and to be installed on a massively lowered TT to look right.

More pics to come with progress... still need a lot of work with all the pits, and this was one of the cleaner wheels to start with.

ooooooo, nice choice i always wanted a black Z with bronze or gold rims. however ive never ever liked 3 spoke rims. or 4 for that matter. but, those look like they will look alright. im watching and waiting for the finished product.

I sat there with a wire brush for about 45 minutes trying to make them look better and that's about as good as they're getting. Sixteen years of owners leaving the center caps on when they cleaned them. Additionally, Stillen and Coddington didn't finish the centers because they expected the caps to cover them, so the metal wasn't even as nice to begin with (it's very pitted). Unfortunately, there's not much else I can do beyond all sorts of sandpaper (or maybe spray some chrome paint)... but I think it'll look fine once it's on my car as it is.

Back on topic, I can't put them on the car yet because the car is about 21 miles away. And I only have 2 wheels done thus far. I painted the centers with "chrome" paint to try to match the outer lip more... waiting for it to dry and then I'll post pics.

Gold overspray. Once I scrub the tires, that'll come right off.

What do you mean? What shine did I bring back out?
