Do I Need to get an entire ECU or just socket and chip???

On Ztune http://www.ztune.ca/product.aspx?pro...8-0003ff00e495 they can socket my stock ecu for a the Ash or JWT chip. Since ASH doesnt have a chip for 96's JWT is the option I'm taking. It costs $75 to socket it and I can buy the JWT Chip from conceptzperformance for $150.

$225 seems like a way better deal then the $575 for the JWT ECU.

There has to be some catch other than not driving my car while the ecu is socketed right?

I assume the JWT ECU is better in some aspect, cant figure out what though.

If you know the difference please let me know. As long as my ECU is chipped Any tuner can tune my car correct?
(Just incase I make any big upgrades to the car)

Tim

i take it as your have a 1996 ecu? In that case JWT is your only option period. That link you have is just for socketing which only works with the 8-bit ECU's. the 8bits are from 90-93NA's and 90-94TTs. 16-bits require a custom daughterboard to allow it to be chipped. Basically if you have a 96 model your stuck with jwt. Unless you want to change out the wiring harness with your Z and get a 8 or 16bit ecu.

Yea I was excited... I didn't even notice the 90-95 part that was clearly listed. Sorry I seem to always post things before I go to bed. Also I got the Z the week before I left for London so I've was juggling plans for the Z with plans for my trip. $575 JWT ECU here I come!! To clarify what I read on JWT they charge me the $575 for the ECU and then $700 (I believe it said $700 for the 96') as a core charge and once I get my new ECU I can ship them my old one and they give me back the core charge. (Makin sure that I can send mine after I get theirs, and that I didn't mis-read anything)

Thanks
Tim

Also I get back tomorrow from London so hopefully any posts or threads I start then will be from a more informed me.

Yes, that's how it works. You pay for the ECU and core and they refund the core amount when you send your ECU. However, you might be able to bypass the core... if you don't need your car for a few days, contact whoever you're getting the ECU from and see if they'll let you send the ECU first. If they receive your ECU before sending the JWT ECU, they'll have no reason to charge you the core.

I was thinking about that I have extra cars and the $700 is alot of extra money to not have for a week. (atleast for me) JWT ECU's can be ordered California Smog Legal correct I remember seeing that option on a page but want to make sure.

Yes, you will have to specify California emissions when you order it.

Sweet makin sure. Can they use my original ECU if I send it in or does it have to be a completely new unit (or refurbished not new) I know they have computers that read your Vin off the ECU and it would be cool if it said my VIN....doesnt matter I guess just askin.

I'm sure they could do that if you wanted to, but it will take longer. But stop asking us questions like this... these are questions that the vendor you get the product from can tell you. Either call Coz and ask him or go straight through JWT.
