chip for z32 NA
So when I bought my car there was a chip and small circuit board in the glove compartment. Guy explained that it was from the owner before him and he never installed it. There is no info on it so I am unsure about installing it, I don't want anything that is going to compromise reliability or otherwise screw things up. The chip says SST and looks like this:

And the board has 2 chips like that plus two smaller ones. Anyone know anything about this?

Your car may have an aftermarket chip and the one in the glovebox could've been the OEM program in case you ever had to return to stock settings (with all JWT ECU's, they include a standard OEM chip for that reason).

Thanks for the replies. I will try to post some pics tomorrow, I don't have my camera with me today. Also, another thing worth mentioning is that the car is stock with the exception of an intake. Or so I was told, I haven't taken of the panel to confirm this.

Good call on checking the ECU to see whats actually in there now. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I have never owned or worked on a Z before. Heres a link to a couple photos of the chip.

Yeah, pull the carpet back from the passenger side floor board (all the way at the front), remove 3 (maybe 4? I don't recall) 10mm bolts from the wooden panel, look at the thing that has 2,513 wires going into it to see if it has a sticker that says "JWT"/"Jim Wolf Technology," "AshSpec," "ZTuner," or "SpecialtyZ." If it doesn't have a sticker, you probably have a stock ECU.
And the EPROM's (which you have posted pics of) are generally indistinguishable... they could be blanks, they could be an aftermarket program, could be stock, don't know. I wouldn't be installing those without having an expert (I'd recommend Specialty Z or Jim Wolf Technology) look at them first - they can read them and tell you what they are.

Just an update, I definitely have a stock ecu. And i think its safe to say none of the internals have been messed with, looks like you have to break a sticker seal to get inside it and that hasn't been done. There is infact an intake although not a jwt. Thanks again for the help.

I would guess it's somebody's rendition of a switchable program, but without connecting it to a computer to read its program, there is no way to know what, exactly, the program is. I would be reluctant to install anything of that sort until knowing it's origins - why didn't the previous owner (or whoever put it there) install it?

Still not sure what the chip is in the glovebox. The previous owner actually only had the car a month and the chip was from the owner before him. I'm probably not gonna look into it any further, if it's not even marked by a reputable manufacturer then I think it's best to stay away. Unless someone knows a cheap way to hook it up to a computer and read what's on it.
