Advice if You Will, Good Sirs

I'm going to buy my first Z32 here within the next week, and it is a 1990 N/A with an automatic transmission. I've read over the buyers guide that is posted on this forum, and I've found a similar one else where. But the advice I need is the following: Knowing that you guys (having a vast knowledge of cars, and Z32s, 100xs more than I know) I know it is possible to switch the automatic with a manual, but would you guys recommend it? I plan to do the TT swap after I get out of college, and would that be when I switch it, or should I change the tranny as soon as I can?

Thanks much.

If the tranny is fine right now, I wouldnt touch it until youre going to do that swap. The manual is much more reliable though. And i would simply do the swap because I wouldnt want to be driving an auto tt, or an auto Z for that matter.

But if youre planning on doing a TT swap, i hope you have read about it, its not just plug and play, and its pricey. I would do the manual at the same time.

OR, just buy a manual TT. It will most likely save you money in the long run.

Welcome to the board.

Do the swaps at the same time... it'll be easier when everything is out all at once - you have to punch holes for the clutch master cylinder and things like that which you hardly have room for with the engine in the car. Not to mention you'll have to swap in a flywheel and clutch onto the back of the motor. Just get a TT/5-speed front clip when you do the swap... even if it doesn't come with the transmission (which I'm not sure if they do or not), it'll come with other vital parts you'll need.

And of course we all recommend it... OEM automatic transmissions are for SUV's and sedans.

I've read that it can run up to as much a 10k, and being that the car I plan on learning the mechanical stuff is the '95 Taurus that I have now, more than likely I will be using a professional to help me, but thank you both for the advice

A 95 Taurus, aside from also having a fuel injected internal combustion gasoline engine, is nothing like a Z32. The Z32 is complicated even by today's standards. Just letting you know.

But having a complete front clip will help you see what goes where during the swap. And the swaps only cost ~$10k when you pay someone to do it... that's how much we used to charge out the door for a TT swap at Ultimate Z.

I completely agree, when I first started looking into Z32 the first info I found out about it was that it's engine, hell all of it was legendary, and very, very complicated. But, I'm up to a challenge, but I know when to, and when not to attempt stuff on my own.

I hate working on this car, it's a nightmare... and so expensive. Good luck bro!

Love my Z.
