93 Security System Locking up Engine?

I was browsing craigslist and i was looking for a 300zx and came across a guy whos willing to trade his ZX for a motorcycle. I have what he wants except the guy says the car is locked up due to the security system. Is there a bypass to this or anything i can do to fix this? Thanks in advance to all who view/help!

Sorry i should have quoted him. He said this exactly, "the security system is locked up so it wont start but thats all i think is wrong with it" and when i asked him if anything else is wrong with the car his response is "i am pretty sure the only issue with the car is the security system, the mileage is around 140k and it does have a clear title". Im not familiar with the 300zx so i dont know if they came with a stock security system that does that. any help is appreciated. thanks!

If the alarm is engaged, I believe it does have a starter kill... but they key should disable that... and if it doesn't, you'd be best off taking it to an alarm shop to have an entire new aftermarket alarm installed (with the OEM one removed). And from there, you have to hope he's not full of **** and that it'll actually run.

How does he know the starter isn't simply dead? Or if it cranks, how does he know the fuel pump or fuel pump control unit aren't dead? And how will you, as a potential buyer, know that the engine is healthy without being able to test compression? The price better be damn good if you're going to risk that.

Well basically hes trying to sell it for 2500, or trade for a bike. Im trading him an 02 ninja 250 worth about 1800. but yes, you do have many valid points. I'm going to have to think about if its even worth my time and the money im going to spend afterwards. Thanks for the info!

if the issue is the security system, the way for you to find out will be to firstly give the battery a charge. if the battery has charge, and the security system is "locked up", the headlights will be flashing and the horn honking. all considering this is an original security system.

but even with my current views on society, i do find it doubtful that anyone would advertise a car as not running when it can be fixed by just locking and unlocking the door.

If the switches in the doors are bad, unlocking the door won't disable the alarm. Many Z32 owners have had this problem... on my old red Z32, I had to either pop the hatch or open the passenger's side door before opening the driver's side door because I couldn't disarm the alarm from the drivers side door.

On second thought, give that a try... use the key on the hatch or other door to see if that can disarm the alarm... usually the one that goes bad is the one that's used the most (driver's side).
